Willard Waldo Obituary

Willard Henry Herman Waldo, 98 years of age, of Wilber, formerly of DeWitt, died May 2, 2010.

He was born on April 2, 1912, to Harmon and Louise Marie (Lizzie Damkroger) Waldo. Willard graduated from DeWitt High School in 1930 and the University of Nebraska in 1934. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He married Beulah Plucknett on June 2, 1933 in Plattsmouth.

His jobs included the meat packing industry, teaching and extension. In 1946, he moved back to DeWitt to raise Duroc hogs, Hampshire Sheep, Milking Shorthorn cattle and certified seed. He served three terms as a Nebraska State Senator and one term on the State Board of Education.

Survived by daughter, Willa (Waldo) Cammack and husband George; a son, Max and wife Tryka all of DeWitt. Sister, Julia (Waldo) Lamson of Solomons, Maryland, Brother in-law Burrell Plucknett, Santa Paula, Calif. and sister-in-law Faye Bean of Friend.

Grandchildren and spouses, Andrew Waldo, Little Rock, Ark., Cindy Cammack and David Reifschneider of Lincoln, Troy and Mary Cammack, Chris Cammack, Mike and Jill Cammack, all of DeWitt, and Rex and Beth Cammack of Elkhorn, Leslie Simonsen of Shickley, Lee and Joni Waldo, Linda Gibbs of DeWitt; 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Great-grandchildren include, Brett Reifschneider, Wes and Lauren Cammack, Emily Cammack, Shelby and Taylor Cammack, Sierra, Torrie and Gage Cammack, Jered and wife Jennifer Tiedeman, Amber Tiedeman, Laura, Cara and Thomas Waldo, Megan Theasmeyer and husband Justin and Jessica Gibbs; great-great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Brooke and Wyatt Tiedeman and Atley Theasmeyer.

Preceded in death by parents; wife; son and daughter in-law, Arley and Susan Waldo, brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Mary, Dean and Dorthea Waldo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Warren Lamson, Bethel Heist and L.E. Heist, Clyde Waldo, Donald Plucknett and wives Phyllis and Reva, Grace and Allen Jarchow, Fern and Donald Schuerman, and in-laws Patricia Plucknett, Donald Bean and granddaughter Sara Waldo.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the DeWitt United Methodist Church with Rev. Karl Lent officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural DeWitt. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, from noon-9 p.m. on Sunday in the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt, and one hour preceding the service at the church on Monday.

A memorial has been established to the DeWitt United Methodist Church or the University of Nebraska Foundation to benefit the Animal Science Department with Galen and Marna Conn in charge. Condolences may be left online at www.griffithshovendick.com. Services entrusted to Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt.
