Al Aubey Obituary

Our loving son and brother, uncle and nephew, Al Joseph Aubey, is today with our Lord, Jesus Christ. Al was born in Beaumont, Texas to James Merle Aubey and Marilyn Jean Durso Aubey on April 16, 1963. He died on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, in New Orleans, Louisiana, his adopted home. He grew up in Beaumont attending Forest Park High School and going to college at Stephen F. Austin University in east Texas. Al found his career in the television industry. He worked for many years at Channel 12 (ABC) here in Beaumont. Later he moved to New Orleans, a city that he loved, and worked for the ABC and CW affiliate stations. He most recently was the writer/producer for the local news advertisements at New Orleans' FOX Channel 8. Al was a loving, caring and jovial man who was universally admired and liked by all his friends and coworkers. Further, Al was a courageous man. During Hurricane Katrina, he elected not to evacuate in order to stay behind and assist the elderly residents of his apartment building. Several elderly shut-in's survived due to his efforts. Al is survived by his father, James Merle Aubey and his wife Ruth; his mother, Marilyn Jean Durso; his brother, James Merle Aubey, Jr. and his wife Lori; his niece, Sarah Katherine Aubey; several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. He will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and coworkers. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with Reverend Carol Thompkins officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont. Al's laugh still rings in my ears and his smile is burned in my brain. In the high school days he was like a ringleader of fun and a glint in his eye that was sure to lead to mischief. This week he gave me the gift of reconnection to friends I'd let slip away and memories long forgotten. He would have liked that I think.
