Caroline Cryar Obituary

Caroline Carson Berry Cryar was born in Conroe, Texas on June 14, 1927. She passed away at her home in Conroe, Texas on March 12, 2022 at the age of 94.

Caroline is preceded in death by mother and father, Eliska Mozell Uzzell Berry and Frederick James Berry, Jr, and the love of her life, her husband Harvey Harold Cryar. She is survived by daughter & son-in-law Carol Ann & Kendall Casseres Palmer, son & partner Carson Harold Cryar & Franklin Hollenbeck, grandsons Jeremiah (Yida), Jerome (Cristie), Malcolm (Kristy), & Thomas Casseres Palmer, great grandchildren Dakota, Madelyn, William, Tyson, and Everett, brother-in-law John Garland Cryar, niece & nephews Lera Jones and her children, Robert (Bobby) Schrock (Betty) and their children, Tuck Cryar, Philip Cryar, Bill Megginnis, & numerous other relatives.

Caroline had a wonderful childhood in Conroe, Texas, her lifelong home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church from birth until death. She enjoyed riding horses all around the Conroe area with her friends and she had many fond memories of her childhood with many friends and family members and her dog, Tango.

After graduating from Conroe High School in 1944, she began working on her Bachelor degree at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where she became a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She finished her degree in education at Sam Houston State University and later received a Master of Education degree from SHSU.

Caroline worked for Conroe ISD for more than 30 years, retiring in 1980. During her years at CISD, she taught students in grades 6 through 11 in the subjects of Science, PE, and American History. She had a lifelong passion for education. The only thing she loved more than being a teacher and her students was her family. Both her daughter and son were lucky enough to have her as their American History teacher.

In 1949, she was proud to be chosen Queen of the Historicade, a pageant portraying episodes in the history of Montgomery County Texas. This was a 3-day long Hollywood produced event with a pageant/performance and parade.

One of the other great passions of her life was genealogy. She and Harold traveled all over the United States researching and gathering data about their ancestors. She was a member of the Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society.

Caroline led a Christian-centered life. She was christened on Mother's Day 1928 in the First Methodist Church of Conroe and remained a member all of her life.

She married the love of her life, Harvey Harold Cryar, on June 9, 1951. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Merchant. They had 2 children, Carol and Carson. Although Caroline dearly loved her work as a teacher, there was never a doubt that her family came first. She was the best wife, Mama, Grandmother, and daughter that any woman could ever be.

We would like to thank all of the people at Home instead for being a source of joy and light over the past years. We give our love and gratitude to Home Instead employees Karen, Angela, Sharron, and Kathy, and others who sat lovingly with Caroline during her illness. And we are thankful for all the people at Devotion Hospice who have been so kind and helpful to our family in the last few weeks. We cannot say enough good things about that organization and the peace, comfort, and tranquility they have brought Caroline and her family in her last days.

Carol & Carson, I just learned of your mother's passing today -- a bit late, I'd say. And, I'm so sorry. She was one beautiful lady I always enjoyed visiting with. Had I continued living in Conroe, I'd have wanted to be "pals" with her. She was simply fun!

I miss both your Dad and Mom -- two absolutely wonderful people I was blessed to know.

I'd always be delighted to hear from you, Carson. It's been a long time. I hope you're well.

My first impression of Ms. Caroline was that she had a very happy childhood and life. She spoke so highly of her children. husband and her family. The love story of her and Harold was very special and she would share their story with me often I enjoyed Ms. Caroline for the short time that I was with her, but she had a profound positive effect on my life and I will cherish the time I had with her. I am happy that she is resting peacefully. May peace and love be with the family. Love Sharron/Home Instead

Mrs. Cryar was my my all-time favorite teacher. She had the rare gift of making every child in her class feel like they were her "favorite." I will never forget the kindnesses of both the Cryars in my junior high years in Conroe.
All my love to Carol and Kendall, Carson and Franklin, and the rest of the Cryar family. Your mom was a truly amazing lady and a gift to me and all those who knew her.
Sincerely,
David Duffy

Carol, and family;
I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a wonderful woman, and a spectacular teacher! I was lucky to have her as a teacher, and to have her as a family friend as well! She will be missed!! She taught her students not only the curriculum, but the importance of integrity and " being true to your word!" She helped a number of students find their moral compass, and taught them the value of respect for themselves and toward others! Caroline was a shining example to follow!

My deepest sympathy for the Cryar family. I had her in history 75-76 at Conroe High. She was by far the best teacher one could have. I will miss her deeply.
