As a mother of two service men myself, I was so deeply moved and honored to be aboard the flight from Atlanta to Houston that carried SSG Rogers home. I can't begin to explain the emotion I experienced knowing I was present on his final flight home to his own mother. And the fear it envoked that one day some other mother may be carrying one of my sons home...
As I post this the tears flow yet again, and I pray his parents find some measure of comfort in knowing they have raised and unfortunately sacrificed such a wonderful man.

God Bless and comfort you and your family.

I was in the same company with Rogers when he was with 1-23inf. battalion. I didn't know him personally but it was quiet clear throughout the company that he was a hell of a soldier. He'll be missed dearly.

The sky was crowded and gray The Chaplain was ready to pray The clouds parted, out came the sun A town came to honor its native son On behalf of a grateful nation, that folded flag This soldier came home, in a black plastic bag The sounds of Taps echoed thru out the hills Gunfire, a soldier's salute, gave me the chills... Young soldiers fight and die, so we can be free
Young soldiers fight and die, so we can be free He died for his country; he died for you and me From Bunker Hill, to Valley Forge, it flew Always hold in esteem; the red, white and blue In the desert of Iraq, and all the wars of the past
May OLD GLORY forever fly, may freedom last A soldier has come home, in peace may he rest Our soldiers, our pride, are our nation's best Remember his family, for their son we do pray We will came to rejoice his trip home and honor them all, in a few days

Dedicated to the ones that have fallen and we will see once again

As a Gold Star Mom I understand the pain you are going through and I want you to know how proud I am of your son. He chose a difficult field of employment but was proud of his job and from others he was very good at his talent. My son was a Navy corpsman and did not die in battle but he is still gone and we are left with memories. May God give you strength during this time and in the future. If I can be of any service to you just let me know.
