Conrad Kirkpatrick Obituary

Conrad D Kirkpatrick

August 16, 1930 - June 19, 2025

Gloucester Point, Virginia - Conrad "Sonny" Kirkpatrick, 94, of Gloucester Point, VA, (formerly of New Athens, IL) passed away with his family at his side on Thursday June 19, 2025, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Freeburg, IL.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was born on August 16, 1930, in Tilden, IL to the late Cecil and Myrtle (Williams) Kirkpatrick. After serving his country in the Army from 1951 to 1954, Conrad worked in various trades before pursuing a long-time career as a carpenter, where he was also a loyal member of the local Carpenter's Union. Regardless of the long, sometimes grueling hours in the heat, cold, rain, and, or snow, Conrad loved the Lord and faithfully served him as a member of the First Baptist Church of New Athens, IL and a Deacon for 10 years. Upon re-locating to Hampton, VA in 1997, Conrad joined Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, and sometimes Handyman.

Throughout life he enjoyed spending time with his grandpa at his farm in Benton, IL, visiting with his cousins, going on picnics with friends, square dancing, traveling, woodworking, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. At the age of 90 he tested for his conceal and carry license and scored 100; the oldest of the 15 people testing and the only one to score 100. At the age of 94 he was still taking guitar lessons and going to the gun range. He loved all animals, especially his cats, Frankie, Little Bit, Big Bit, and Max.

Conrad was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Delores "Dee" (Koch) Kirkpatrick married March 29, 1952 in Piggot AR, and who passed away on August 14, 1998; son, Timothy Kirkpatrick; daughter Lisa (Kirkpatrick) Alvarado; an infant son; step-daughter Bonnie Kinchsloe; parents Cecil and Myrtle (Williams) Kirkpatrick; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ernest & Virginia (Hewitt) Koch; siblings and their spouses, Colleen & Mike Barr, Vernell & Eva Kirkpatrick; brothers-in-law and their spouses Bill & Gladys Koch, Leroy & Lola Koch and Steven Koch; sister-in-law Gayle Moore, brother-in-law Wayne Batten and granddaughter April Sturm.

He is survived by his wife Brenda (Batten) Kirkpatrick married February 14, 2000 in Norfolk, VA; his children Cheryl (Keith) Walker; Cinretta Kirkpatrick; Cathy (Ken) Reinheimer; Pamela (Lou) Harris; and Sunny Hoffarth; step-children, Wendy (Jerry) Banty, Bernie Hammonds and Cindi (Josh) Chase; daughter-in-law Sandra (McLaughlin) Kirkpatrick; brothers-in-law Kenny Moore, Ronald (Susie) Batten; and sister-in-law Nora Koch; Twenty-Four Grandchildren; Forty Great-Grandchildren; and Five Great-Great Grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Service on August 16, 2025 at First Baptist Church Smithton, IL.

Memorials may be made to SPCA, Gloucester, VA Fire and Rescue, or donor's choice.
