O'Fallon, Illinois - Ellen Marie Burgdorf, 93, of O'Fallon, IL, passed away on July 12, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on October 3, 1927, in Welda, Kansas. Graduating valedictorian of the Class of 1942 from Colony High School at the age of 15, Ellen then continued her education by going to business school in 1944. She married the late Raymond (Ray) Burgdorf in 1954, and they lived together in O'Fallon for 30 years before his passing in 1984. Ellen's career took her into accounting at Scott Air Force Base for over 30 years, and she was a member of the Eastern Star OES. Ellen was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. As her health declined, she often spoke about how lucky she was to have the family she had.
Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband; Raymond Burgdorf, her parents; Robert W. and Alta (nee Shockey) Barnes Jr., and one sister; Roberta L. Bauss.
She is survived by one daughter; Cheryl Duncan, of Belleville, IL, one brother; Robert (Bill) Barnes of Rantoul, KS, three grandchildren; Dean Hess of Belleville, IL, Jason (Sheila) Hess of Medora, IL, and Tiffany (Brian) Holley of Belleville, IL, eight great-grandchildren; Dustin Hess, Dylan Hess, Ashley Hess, Cody Hess, Nathaniel Vandygriff, Zack White, Lexie Holley, Olivia Holley, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 10:00am -12:00pm at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O'Fallon, IL 62269.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 12:00pm at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O'Fallon, IL 62269 with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights,IL.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society; https://donate3.cancer.org/. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Schildknecht Funeral Home.
