Dear Vince,

I am so sorry for your loss. As you have probably heard from many of your friends, your mom was like a second mom to us. She was a generous spirit who opened up her heart and her house to what, at times, must have seemed like an endless line of young adults with all kinds of teenage angst. Her vocation as a nurse extended well beyond her job at the hospital; she was always on call, available to listen, and eager to offer advice. Most of the details have faded from my memory over the last 29 years, but I still warmly recall sitting around the kitchen table talking with your mom, often late into the night and early in the morning. Now that I think about it, she wasn't just a generous spirit, she was/is a Saint. Yet, as much as she cared for the “extended family” made up of her children's friends, it didn't even compare to her devotion to and love for her immediate family. Your mom was a wonderful woman who has unfortunately left this world much too early. However, the fact that her memory lives on, even in an old high school friend who has not had the pleasure of spending time with her for nearly three decades, is hopefully a testament that she lived a meaningful life.
