Joshua Thorn Obituary
Joshua A. "Pete" Thorn, Born June 10, 1924 in Pine
Bluff, Ark., died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Thorn was a retired car inspector for Southwestern Railroad, St. Louis, Mo., and also retired unit control operator for 31 years for Union Electric Company. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church; St. Clair Lodge 24, AF & AM, (50 year Member); Operating Engineer Local 148; and Quail Club. Mr. Thorn was a World War II Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents,- Joshua A. and Winnie, nee Wise, Thorn; two brothers, John W. and Clifton A. Thorn; three sisters, Winnie H. Sloan Lowe, Mary Livingston, and Mattie Jarvis; and a sister-in-law, Alma Thorn.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Nell, nee Zimmerman, Thorn; a son, Steven K. Thorn of St. Louis, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; and his special caregiver, niece, Mary Alice Kurowski of Iowa.
Memorials are preferred to St. Matthew United Methodist Church or Hospice of Southern Ill.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Belleville, Ill. A Masonic service will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Belleville, Ill., with the Rev. Jim Sloan, the Rev. Larry Patton, and the Rev. Bob Souders officiating. Entombment will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Belleville. Ill.
