Smithton, Illinois - Nancy S. Sutherland, nee Wilkens, 79, of Smithton, IL, born September 6, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, died Sunday, December 7, 2025, at her residence.
Mrs. Sutherland retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 35 years of service. She absolutely loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Nancy also enjoyed her time as a scout leader with Boy Scouts Pack 54.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dennis C. Sutherland, whom she married on June 11, 1971, and who died on October 1, 2021; a granddaughter, Breanna Nicole Sutherland; her parents, Henry and Norma, nee Boyer, Wilkens; a brother, Thomas (Glenda) Wilkens; and a sister, Joyce Schaefer.
Surviving are a son, Mark W. Sutherland (Stephanie Palazzolo); two grandchildren, Nicholas Charles Sutherland and Lauren E. Sutherland; dear nieces and nephews; and a grand pup, Bella.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, IL.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, IL, with Deacon Corby Valentine officiating.
Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Smithton, IL.
