Frank Uhrig Obituary

Frank George Uhrig, Sr. passed from this life peacefully at home in the late evening of August 4, 2010, four days short of his 80th birthday. Just as his life ended, the calm weather took a sudden turn and there came from the heavens the roar of thunder and the flash of lightning and the rains came down in torrents. We presume that this is the equivalent of a band of angels playing a Sousa march as a special "welcome home" from God Almighty for this great and wonderful man. His sons Skip and Ira and daughters-in law Teresa and Kristin were honored to be by his side at the time of his death. His grandchildren Marianne, Ellen, Jedidiah, Wyatt, Levi, Waylon, and Nellie Rose were blessed to be able spend so much time with him in his last days. There's so much to be said about this man: Marine, award-winning athlete, school teacher, school board member (and member of countless other boards throughout the community), business owner, and above all, friend, loving husband, father, and grandfather. Frank was born on August 8, 1930, the third child of John Leonard Sebastian Uhrig and Elma Uhrig. His parents, as well as his brother Leonard and sister Joyce preceded him in death. His sister Marian Boe and brother Ralph Uhrig survive him. Frank was President of the Bellingham High School Class of 1948 (though he was not responsible for placing the livestock on the 3rd floor of Bellingham High School shortly prior to graduation). He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in August 1948. He married his high-school sweetheart Marianne Yeager on September 21, 1951, and they had two children Frank Uhrig, Jr ("Skip), and Ira John Uhrig. Marianne died in January 1968. In May 1977 he married Claudia Lindor, who died in November 2007. He believed that he was twice blessed for having been able to share his life with these two remarkable women whom he loved so dearly. A graveside funeral service for Frank will be held at Greenacres Cemetery on Wednesday, August 11th at 1:00 p.m. It will be a short, simple, and dignified service in keeping with his wishes. A gathering will follow. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bellingham or Whatcom Hospice. To the family of Frank George Uhrig: Very sad to hear about the loss of your father. He was kind to me once--like a father--and gave me
my first, 40-hr a week job, after i left home to prepare for my school
in the fall. I will keep you in my prayers.

My condolences to the family. I've enjoyed the contributions that the Yeager/Uhrig family has made to the community; and I'm touched by the passing on another family patriarch. And my best to my friend Skip during your time of loss.

Thank you Mr. Uhrig for your service to America as well as Whatcom County. You will be forever missed. I came home one time on leave in my Marines t-shirt ran into Yeagers to grab a few fishing things and Mr.Uhrig kept us talking for a good hour. We laughed, We joked. SEMPER FI MR. UHRIG THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE. I loved growing up coming to visit Santa yearly and getting all the wonderful Yeagers toys from downstairs (now have been doing the same with my own children) My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Know Mr. Uhrig is waiting for you all up above.

Frank was a wonderful friend, He was there to check on me after my dad died. They went to school together. I will truly miss him. He has supported our silent auction at Denny's for years raising money for local charities. He also loved to be apart of our family there is no doubt in our mind we all now have a great angel watching over us. Thank You Frank! We love you! Deborah

Wow! A name from the past. I too "began" my office career at Yeagers. I believe it was in about 1965 I worked in the office. I stopped in to see Frank a few years ago and he remembered me!! It had been a good 40 years. Yes, he was a fine person and cared for people and somehow kept that store going. My condolences to the family.

When I was 15 years old I got to go to work at Yeager's. I was amazed at the way Frank counted nickels--two hands shooting nickels into the till. I am grateful for the time at Yeager's and working for Marianne and Frank. Bless you Frank.

Frank, Mr. Uhrig was my 4th and 5th grade teacher at Silver Beach Grade School in the early sixties. Mr. Uhrig was a great teacher and worked well with the kids. When recess time you could always count on him to be out with the kids on the playground. He coached us in basketball for the years he taught . He will be deeply missed by many former students. Frank was such a nice MAN.It is hard to explain all the wonderful things he did for the community. We played golf laughed a lot. At the outset of operation Santa Clause was a rock and helped gather things kids could use and prompted others to do likewise. I remember so many things he did to reach out to be of service to others I will miss him and the City will miss him. And the Lord bless his sons. GOD BLESS' him, George Masten ret WCSO

Frank was always such a good friend to our family. Such a kind man. He will be missed, but is now reunited with his loved ones gone before. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
