Grace Roorda

Grace Roorda, age 81 of Lynden, joined her hus-band, Albert, in heaven on Wednesday, December 10. She was born in Friesland on November 14, 1927 and studied to be a seamstress. She married Albert Roorda in October of 1948 and came to America as a new bride. She and Albert worked hard and raised their children on a dairy farm near Lynden. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Lynden and also volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for twenty-five years. Throughout her life she demonstrated her deep faith, especially to her family. Grace had a great appreciation for all the beauty and blessings in her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and those whose lives that she blessed with her grace and faith. Preceded in death by her husband Albert, Grace is survived by her children Phil (Linda) Roorda of Ferndale, Hank (JoAnn) Roorda, Jerry (Dorene) Roorda and Gretta Roorda all of Lynden; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brother Dick (Mary) Top of Sunnyside and sister-in-law Anna Roorda of Lynden and numerous other relatives and family in The Netherlands. Visitation hours will be on Sunday, December 14, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 15, at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church, 10th & Front Sts., Lynden, with Rev. Robert Woodyard officiating. Memorials in Grace's name may be made to the Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Dr., or to the First Christian Reformed Church Building for the Future Fund, 1010 Front St., both Lynden, WA. 98264.
