Anne Helft

1920 - 2014 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. Anne Helft, 93, of Easterbrook Avenue, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. Anne was born on Aug. 6, 1920, in Elberfeld, Germany. She was sent to England in 1935 by her father, Jacob Reuter, who was scoffed at by friends and family for predicting the Holocaust. Anne enjoyed playing bridge in the area and in Williamstown, traveling, and the time she spent with her family. She is survived by two sons, Ralph Helft, and John Helft and his wife, Jean; five grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Anne, Rachel, Laura, Emily and Zach, and three great-grandchildren, Julia, Eva and Ava. Anne is predeceased by a brother, Peter Reuter, who died in December of 2013. FUNERAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends may call at the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, March 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Dear Helft Family -
While attending the board meeting of the Cheney Library, someone mentioned your mom and commented about how she was missed. Shocked - is an understatement to describe how I felt. Bill and I must have been out of town at the time of her passing and did not see the obituary in the paper. Please accept our belated, yet sincere sympathies for your loss. She was a dear lady who left her mark on our community. Blessings on you and yours.

February 28, 2014

Dear Ralph, John, Rachel and family, My condolences on the loss of your Mom/Grandmother. Anne was like a Mother to me in my youth. Her family lived on the same street as my Mother's family in Elberfeld. The Sternberg's and the Helft's were very close and go back a long time. Knowing that she is no longer there to stop in and say hello, will be missed.
With love, Gaby

For many years, when my Mother was ill and then died, Anne and her husband George were like parents to me. Anne's family lived on the same street (Am Forshof) in Elberfeld, Germany that my Mom grew up on. I will miss knowing that Anne is no longer there for me to drop in on and say hello.
