Daniel Mawhinney Obituary

Daniel Foster Mawhinney, 46, of Kingston, NY died of coronary thrombosis peacefully in his sleep on October 7, 2024. Dan was the son of Sarah Mawhinney of Pittsfield, MA and Thomas Mawhinney of Poughkeepsie, NY and stepson of Laura Sagan.

Dan attended schools in Pittsfield, MA, Delmar, NY, and graduated from Rhinebeck High School where his dad was principal. He received a bachelor's degree from Binghamton University where he was captain of the swim team and record holder in the 200- and 400-meter IM. He received a Masters degree from SUNY New Paltz and special education certification from Touro University.

Dan started his teaching career at Astor Home for Children in Rhinebeck and was currently a special education teacher at Miller Middle School in Kingston, where he will be greatly missed. Dan was a die-hard Patriots and Red Sox fan, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and loved making everyone laugh. He was working at being a distance runner and especially loved training with Amanda.

In addition to his parents, Dan leaves his loving partner Amanda Slater and his children Elaina, Logan, and Luke Mawhinney who were his world. He also leaves his sister, Kate Tenczar and her two daughters Reagan and Etta, and step-sister, Sophia Sagan. He also leaves behind a large group of friends who he considered family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Saturday, October 12th, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm. There will be a celebration of Dan's life at Frank Guido's Little Italy immediately after.
