Dennis Koch Obituary

Dennis (Denny) R. Koch, 70, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and close friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Denny was known for his steady kindness, dry wit, and deep loyalty-to the people he loved and to his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. He had a quiet way of making everyone feel welcome, and a knack for finding humor even in life's more challenging moments. For those who knew him best, it's no surprise that the Frank Sinatra classic says it best: Denny lived life his way-with purpose, with heart, and on his own terms.

Denny was born in Pittsfield in 1955 to Richard E. and Mary Mazza Koch. He was educated in the Pittsfield school system and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1972 before going on to study accounting at North Adams State College.

He spent over 47 years working as General Manager at Lipton Incorporated, retiring in 2021. Throughout his life, Denny was deeply involved in his community, serving on the boards of the Berkshire Community Action Council and the New England Fuel Institute. He also gave his time as Cub Scout Pack Master when his sons were young-an experience that brought him great pride (and probably a few gray hairs).

Denny loved to travel. While his bucket list wasn't quite finished, he shared countless adventures over the years with his wife, children, and many lifelong friends. His stories were always full of humor, warmth, and a little mischief.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Diane of Pittsfield; and their three sons: Dennis R. Koch Jr. of Halfmoon, NY; Jeffrey A. Koch and his wife Julie of Clifton Park, NY; and Timothy S. Koch and his wife Amy of Williamstown, MA, as well as three cherished grandchildren, Skylar, Ryan, and Arya, who always said Papa made the best pancakes and "Papazagna". He also leaves behind his sister Carol M. Kirchner and her husband Michael of Cheshire, his sister-in-law Leslie A. Philippe and her husband James of Sanford, ME, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Brodie.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Koch.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held, Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
