Dorothy McDonald Obituary

Dorothy Louise McDonald, 81, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, February 7.

Born in Nassau, NY on April 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marion Lobdell.

Dorothy, better known as Dot was a homemaker later in life. Her greatest joy was being home and spending time with her family, her beloved husband Jack, friends, and animals. She lived a simple life and had a huge personality. There were many that called her "Mom". She was the type of person that you could never forget. From her humor, loving personality, and her love for children and animals. Her hobbies were mostly her family, outdoor recreation, tending to her flower gardens, watching and feeding birds, she especially loved cardinals. Dot lit up a room when she walked in and always had a smile on her face. Anyone who knew Dot described her as one of the happiest, most positive, strongest woman you could ever meet.

Dot survived 4 cancers over a 20-year time frame. The final one weakened her enough to end her journey. She lived a beautiful life and made so many happy memories and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She will never be forgotten.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack McDonald of Adams, her children; Walter Melanson of Pittsfield, Jackie Larabee (Bev) of New Lebanon, NY, Tim Melanson (Deb) of East Chatham, NY, Darlene Perkins (Bill) of Pittsfield, grandchildren; Malissa Dupee, Gregory Melanson, Trevor Melanson, great-grandchildren; Justin Dupee; Caleb Dupee, Caitlyn Dupee, Andrew Dupee, Kyle Melanson, Zoe Melanson, great-great-grandchildren; Cayden Dupee, Jayden Dupee and her only surviving sibling, her sister Carol Vandeusen of West Lebanon, NY.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by 8 siblings, her loving son Dwayne McDonald & her daughter-in-law Kelly McDonald. She is now reunited with her parents/son/siblings/many other family members, friends, and beloved pets.

Services to celebrate Dorothy's life and to share stories will be held at a later date when weather permits and Covid restrictions are lifted and all are able to gather safely.

Donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Children's or animal charity of your choice.
