James Maroni Obituary

James A. Maroni, 66, of 335 East St., Lee, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born in North Adams on April 17, 1936, son of Lucy Smith Maroni and the late Albert A. Maroni. He was raised in Readsboro, Vt., where he attended schools and then moved to North Adams, where he was a 1954 graduate of Drury High School.
In 1959, he graduated from Springfield College and in 1960 received his master’s degree in education from the college.
He served with the Army National Guard from 1954-57.
He moved to Lee in 1960 where he taught social studies at Lee High School and driver education until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Lee, and a member of the Lee Educational Association.
In the summers from 1960 until 2002 he worked at the box office at Tanglewood. In the 1970s, he coached the Lee Little League farm teams.
Besides his mother of North Adams, he leaves his wife, the former Sheila T. Tisdale, whom he married Feb. 17, 1962; two sons, Michael J. Maroni of Leominster and James L. Maroni of Pittsfield; a daughter, Michele L. Simler of Marlboro; a sister, Jane E. Williams of Holden; and six grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be held Thursday, March 27, 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, Lee, with the Rev. Bert W. Marshall, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Calling hours at the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, are today, 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute or to the Organ Fund at the First Congregational Church through the funeral home, which is in charge of arrangements.

I am so sorry to hear of "Ace's" death, he was a special person and teacher. I graduated in 1977 and still think of him when I see a driver's ed.student. God bless him and his wonderful and calm nature. He will be missed.

I also graduated from LHS (1967)-Mr. Maroni not only tried to teach me to drive, but was also the person responsible for my ability to do my own taxes and to fold a roadmap!

I am a 1983 garduate of Lee High. I also graduated with Mr. Maroni's son, Jimmy. They are all good people and I know Mr. Maroni will be greatly missed. He certainly left an impact on everyone who went to Lee High. My thoughts & prayers are with his family.

School and attended Mr. Maroni's History and Driver's Ed class. I'll remember him from those years as humorous, and educational. One our our words to learn in his class was plethera. I know you'll have a plethera of good memories of him....I do. God Bless you.
