Janet Ellis Ziegler

1929 - 2022

Retired LTC Janet "Jan" Ellis Ziegler, US Army, aged 92 years and nearly 9 months passed peacefully on 20th February, 2022 at The Cottage, Cypress Cove in Fort Myers, FL.

Graduating from Pittsfield High School (Class of '47) and attending Dean College in Franklin, MA, Jan received her BA from the University of California, San Francisco where she met her late husband LTC George H. Ziegler. They were married in Richmond, MA in November 1962.

Jan was also preceded in death by her parents Dean and Bea Ellis and her brother Warner Ellis, all of Richmond, MA, as well as her husband George who died in 2000.

LTC Janet Ziegler served proudly from PFC to LTC for 20 years in the regular Army with tours of duty in Germany and Vietnam. Jan's many military service awards include The Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars the Army Commendation medal with Oak Leaf cluster.

Funeral services, with full military honors and burial with George, will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on a date yet to be announced.

Jan is survived by her step-daughter, Debra Ziegler and her son-in-law, Colin Lewin in the UK; her nephews Bill Ellis of ID and Mike Ellis of Pittsfield, MA; her nieces Liz Lucas and Janet Bea Helms both of TX.

We are all saddened by Jan's passing but pleased to have many memories of a woman who always enjoyed a fine meal that she didn't have to cook, a good party and a witty toast. There will be many there to greet her to get the party started as she enlists in God's Army.
