John Houghtaling Obituary

John Houghtaling 1938 - 2008 LENOX John William "Butch" Houghtaling, Sr., 69, 6 Main Street, died Thursday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. Born March 19, 1938 in Pittsfield, son of Wallace Houghtaling, Sr. and Elizabeth Stossel Houghtaling, he attended local schools, including Lenox High School.Mr. Houghtaling owned and operated Berkshire Taxi and Limousine for many years. Prior to that he had been a self-employed truck driver, had driven for the former Lenox Trucking Co. for several years, and had owned the former B&B Restaurant in Pittsfield. He enjoyed watching Nascar racing, was a fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins, and loved traveling in his motor home with his son and grandchildren. He also enjoyed being in the sun at the beach and fishing. Mr. Houghtaling leaves his companion of many years, Elizabeth Gaherty of Lenox; four sons, James Gaherty of Lee, and John Houghtaling, Jr. and Jamie and Richard Houghtaling, all of Florida; a sister, Cornelia Tiffany of Pittsfield; a brother, Arthur Houghtaling of Pittsfield, and four grandsons, Christopher and Corey Gaherty of Lee, Jeffrey Houghtaling of Florida and Richard Houghtaling of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by two daughters, Debbie and Diane Houghtaling; his brothers Cortland and Wallace Houghtaling, Jr., and his sister Gloria Houghtaling. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Monday at noon at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox with the Rev. Suzanne Brunnquell, pastor of Morningside Baptist Church in Pittsfield, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 10 until the time of the funeral. Close friends and family members are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Houghtaling Memorial Bench Fund in care of the funeral home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA. 01240.
