Dear Michael and family,
My heart is heavy and my thoughts are with you guys. What a good friend she was to me and Doug. I remember the homemade merengue cookies she brought over to say welcome to the neighborhood. The calls to come over for happy hour that I enjoyed with her at her kitchen table. We were especially grateful for the way she and Michael adopted us when we were homeless for 6 wks before moving into our new place. We were treated like family. She also babysat our troublesome puppy for two weeks when we went on our honeymoon-bootcamp she called it! She always welcomed the dog back even though it crapped on her bed everytime we came over!
I will miss her kindness, her outspokeness, and her mothering.
We love you Michael.

Dear Michael, Aaron, David and Kineret,
We were literally struck dumb last evening when Sandy called to tell us that Rachel had died. How could that be? Although we hadn’t spoken since after Pesach, at that time she sounded well and even content, enjoying the new house and the beauty of her surroundings.

How can we possibly express our sadness? We will always remember Rachel first as our friend and then as a very bright, hard working, exceptionally organized, highly ethical, meticulously honest outspoken person.

We walked many paths together, often because Rachel extended her hand to us: to join the Schechter car pool, to live with all of you when we were “homeless” after our “yeridah” in 1978 and you were remodeling your kitchen; to attend your lively Sedurim. This past Pesach we were feeling sad accepting that it was no longer possible to join you for Pesach which in our minds is as attached to the Albert family as it is to Moses. Pesach was never the same without all of you and especially without Rachel’s insightful and probing questions.

When our children entered first grade at Solomon Schechter Day School, Rachel and I founded the Schechter weekly newsletter, the Shavuon. Rachel also played a major role in the special tribute event to Carl that was held at Temple Reyim. We know that she volunteered her time and energy to Temple Reyim, to Hebrew College, to Hadassah and that she tutored children who needed help learning to read. Rachel’s honest effort at tikum olam has unquestionably made the world a better place.

Please accept our sincerest condolences on the loss of your beloved wife and mother and grandmother. Rachel was our friend and she will always be in our memory for a blessing.

Michael,
I often think of you and "Ricky" as I drive on Bay Road and was shocked to read that my first camp counselor has passed away. She was so kind to us that first year we were at Schechter. Peter and I are very sorry for your immense loss.
