Big Rapids - Jacqueline Walters, 88, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Altercare of Big Rapids.
She was born March 11, 1933, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Thomas and Janie (Lightfoot) Marsh. Jackie was raised by her maternal grandparents, Jacob and Bertha Lightfoot, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1952. She then earned her associate degree in Secretarial from Ferris State College.
Jackie was well known for her skills with a baton. She was the lead majorette for the Big Rapids School marching band as they marched in many parades and band outings throughout the state. Jackie was a self-taught painter who did amazing work, and also loved to teach painting to others. She also loved to line dance and she did so with Kearney for many years.
While attending Ferris she met Kearney Walters, she was a lead Majorette and a cheerleader and he a basketball player. They were married in Big Rapids in August 1952. Sadly, he preceded her in death in 2018.
Jackie is survived by her two children, Mark (Diane) Walters and Sharon (Ken) Walters-Ritz; six grandchildren, Eric Walters, Ryan (Nikki) Walters, Brett (Emily) Walters, John (Kayla) Boam, Travis (Angie) Boam, and Alisha (David) Oneyear; 9 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Olivia, James, Weston, and Quinn Walters, Brenna, John, and Blakley Boam, and Macklynn Oneyear; and her Aunt Joyce Lightfoot. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and grandparents.
Private family services will be held. Jackie will be laid to rest next to Kearney in Highland View Cemetery. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Share a memory or express condolences at mohnkefuneralhome.com.
