Helen Wilkerson Memoriam

Helen Wilkerson, 86, of Stamford formerly of Garden City, passed away in Abilene on Thursday, February 13, 2025. A visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025 in Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. A graveside service to be held Saturday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. in Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, Texas with Pastor Paul Wright officiating under direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. Helen was born in the home of a family friend on November 14, 1938 in Del Rio, Texas. She is the daughter of Robert Lee and Theresa Jo (Hawkes) Nickell. She graduated from Alpine High School, and later attended Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, Texas. Helen married Marion Bryans Wilkerson on September 24, 1959 in Midland, Texas. She worked as a Postal Clerk for many years and worked at the Sheriff's office in Garden City as a Jailer and Deputy Sheriff. Marion passed away in 2012, she then moved to Stamford to be closer to her daughter. Helen was a member and regularly attended St. John's Methodist Church with her family. She loved going to the "Lake Place" at Possum Kingdom and spending time with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Robert L. Nickell Jr. . Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Staci and Jeff Robertson of Stamford; grandson Brandon Robertson and wife Gracen of Belton; a sister Marilyn Read of Big Spring; and was awaiting the arrival of her great-granddaughter Eliza Kay Robertson. Memorials may be made to the Stamford Preservation League; 116 S. Swenson Street; Stamford, Texas 79553.

I'm sorry you found it inconvenient letting me speak to Helen since November. Because she was a remarkable person and friend.I have missed her terribly. She was easy to love.
