Robert Patterson

1928 - 2022

Robert S. Patterson, 93, of Big Spring, formerly of Midland, passed away Friday, July 29. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a vigil from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 5, at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be at Trinity Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 6.
Robert was born July 31, 1928, in Chicago to Robert and Elinor Patterson. He joined the Air Force in 1951. He began his training in Waco and completed advanced pilot training in Bryan, Texas. In 1952, after his training, he was sent to Korea where he completed many missions flying F-84s. After Korea he was sent to Big Spring to be a flight instructor at Webb Air Force Base. It was during this time in Big Spring that he met and married Norma Lou Jones in 1956. His military career took them many places during their marriage, spending time in Nebraska, Guam, Vietnam and Grand Falls, North Dakota. He retired from the military as a Lt. Colonel in 1974 and he and Norma made their home in Midland. He was a Catholic and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Midland. During his retired years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, camping, visiting with friends and family and watching various sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; brothers, Gerald Patterson, Thomas Patterson, and John Patterson; sisters, Mary Patterson and Nancy Arenz.
He is survived by his sister, Jane DeBaise and husband, Don, of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Beverlyn Jones of Big Spring, Peggy Jones of Brenham, Mary Jones of Corpus Christi, Helga Patterson of San Antonio; and brother-in-law, Lon Baucum of Abilene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
