SHEPHERD - Dave Dodge passed away at his home in Shepherd, Mont., on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, of natural causes.
Dave was born May 15, 1942, in Hardin, Mont., to Maude and Ralph Dodge. After graduation, he served in the Army in Vietnam and was proud to be a patriot and veteran. Upon returning home from the war, he worked as a cook at the Windmill and then the U.S. Post Office where he retired. He truly enjoyed his retirement years.
He enjoyed the activities and friendships he gained from belonging to many local organizations one of which was The Trailin Around Horse Riding Club and even though he didn't have a horse he was an active member and always planned his birthday ride and potluck! He loved to explore and joined the Gold Prospectors Association of America. Several years ago he traveled to Nome, Alaska, to successfully pan for gold. For a number of years, he was a volunteer for the Citizens Watch Program with the BLM and made many trips with the BLM personnel. He was also a member of the Treasure State ATV and Billings Motorcycle Club. His other interests and hobbies included exploring the backroads. He was especially knowledgeable about the Pryor Mountain area. He liked riding his ATV, camping, watching NASCAR races, reading books on the history of Montana and mostly going on long drives with Judy. Many a day trips were planned around the best restaurant stops. He dabbled in genealogy and was proud to tell us he was a direct descendent of Daniel Boone.
Dave is survived by his sister Judy and her son Rob (Marcy). He will be missed by his special friend Judy; good neighbor and hobby-farm partner Greg; long-time friends Noel, Gary and many many others.
A viewing is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 19, at the Cremation and Funeral Gallery from 1 to 5 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. a military memorial service will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery in Laurel followed by a celebration of Dave's life at the Country Inn and Suites at 231 Main Street in Billings. Memorials may be sent to Rimrock Humane Society, P.O. Box 834, Roundup, MT 59072.
