Rabbi Gold presided over my roommate´s wedding. His loving character brought joy. As we celebrated he saw me attempting and said "Artur, I am never think I see you dance Hora". I scarcely knew him but I am in tears to recall. I loved the man. Arthur Waldron H´71

Rabbi Gold was an extraordinary mentor to me, and to many friends, during my years as a Harvard undergraduate and graduate student. On more than one occasion his interventions dramatically changed my orientation to life. I just learned of his death: my deep condolences to his family and friends and the religious community of faculty, students, staff, and alumni has for so many years sustained.

Ben and I shared the intense Orthodox yeshiva experience, he in Europe, I at Torah Vodaas in Williamsburg. We talked about our theological struggles and uncertainties from time to time over the many years of our friendship.

Ben was serious, introspective, learned, ethical and filled with a profound love of tradition that he could never reconcile with God's silence. It was an endless battle in which he embraced the contradictions of his belief and practice.

He was an extraordinary rabbi, teacher and witness. Zecher tzadik livracha.

I did not know Rabbi Ben-Zion Gold well, but I remember clearly his kind, warm greetings on so many occasions when our paths crossed on the Harvard campus and in the surrounding neighborhood. May his memory be a blessing. My deepest condolences to the family.

Ben Zion Gold z"l, was my dear friend and mentor.
I came to the Jewish Theological Seminary from Sioux City Iowa. Ben Zion came from Radom, Poland. We were worlds apart; yet we formed a deep and enduring friendship. We studied together, we laughed together and had " good times " together.
I cherish the friendship that we had . I am grateful for all that he taught me.. I will miss him.

I had the privilege of being one of his charges, in the class of 1971. Rabbi Gold brought kindness and patience to his relationships with his students, all of whom, given the tendency of college students to overestimate grossly their knowledge of the world, sorely needed that patience. He was a moral Jewish force in the turbulent late 60s years. Some years later, when I was in need of personal guidance and healing, he was comforting to me in ways which I will never forget, and which I have gratefully shared with others in similar need. And he steered me to exactly the right place and person for the launching of my career. He was a gift to generations of students, and he will always be for us one of the greatest assets of a great university. May his memory be a blessing.
