Carol Swift Obituary

63, of Duxbury, formerly of Tucson, AZ, Marshfield, and Hingham, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 10th, after a five-month long struggle with brain cancer. Mrs. Swift worked in creative and executive positions at The Country Loft mail order firm in Hingham, a national catalog company she founded with her husband in 1974. She also recently worked at Boston LightWorks, a lighting manufacturer she also co-founded. After college, she worked as a flight attendant with American Airlines in Boston and Dallas until her marriage in 1963. Born in Bay City, Michigan, she grew up in Philadelphia and Hingham and was a graduate of Hingham High School. She attended Green Mountain College in Vermont and the University of Arizona. Carol is survived by her devoted husband Robert G. Swift of Duxbury. Although they were married for 42 years, their romance began back in high school, with their first date on Carol's 16th birthday. She is also survived by her four devoted children; John R. Swift and his wife Wendy, York, PA; James E. Swift and his wife Sandra of Marshfield, Amy E. Nerger and her husband Robert, also of Marshfield, and Mark D. Swift and his wife Gisela, of Westminster, CO. In addition, she is survived by her four cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Owen Swift and Wiley and Carly Nerger, all of Marshfield, as well as her sister, Joy A. Hockings, of Tucson, AZ. Carol was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was cherished by her entire family, and will be very dearly missed. Carol was the daughter of the late Elwood and Kathryn Pett of Tucson. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service, following cremation, on Saturday, May 14th at 11 AM at the High Street Cemetery, corner of High and Main Sts., Hingham. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.
