1946 - 2017

SCHAUB, Charles Emmet Jr. "Chuck" Of Rockport, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Wednesday the 7th of June at the age of 71. He was married in June of 1990 to the love of his life Kerri McDonald Schaub. His daughter, "Smunch", and the sunshine of his life, Ciara was born June 1992. He became proud father of his namesake Charles "Chase" in November of 1995. They spent many happy years living in the Charlestown Navy Yard before moving their family to Rockport, Massachusetts.

Chuck was born on May 25, 1946 and raised in Springfield, Pennsylvania by Mary (Brobst) Schaub and Charles Emmet Schaub, Sr., along with his two loving sisters Margo (Margaret) Matt and Mary Anne Rosenman. He was an Eagle Scout, tennis player, lacrosse player, golfer, and remained an avid swimmer for much of his life. He spent his teenage summers caddying at the Rolling Green Golf Course. He was a member of the National Guard during the Vietnam War.

Chuck was a proud alumnus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA where he graduated Cum Laude in 1968. Chuck went on to study law at Boston College, graduating Cum Laude in 1972, and made a name for himself in construction law. He spent his entire 43 year career at Hinckley, Allen, and Snyder where he was an esteemed partner and Super Lawyer recipient among many other honors. Throughout his career, he formed deep bonds with many of the colleagues and clients he worked with.

Chuck was a member of several professional legal societies including the American Arbitration Association and CPR, Massachusetts Super Lawyers for the area of Construction Litigation, and Woodward/White Inc.'s Best Lawyer's in America in the Construction Law and Litigation Construction categories. He was also the recipient of the Martindale-Hubbell AV Peer Review Rating. In 2007, Chuck was awarded Associate Member of the Year in recognition of his dedication and commitment to UCANE and the Utility Construction Industry awarded by the Utility Contractor's Association. Chuck co-authored Massachusetts Practice, Construction Law 12th Edition published in April 2012.

Chuck loved the ocean. He was an avid swimmer and scuba diver, and was heralded by many local neighbors for his chilly two-mile swims to Andrews Point. Chuck ran several marathons, including Boston and New York, and inadvertently won a race along the Charles River on his way to visit his newborn daughter at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston! Prior to fatherhood, Chuck was a proud member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Boston where he had the privilege of traveling the world. Highlights of his trips included a private audience with Pope John Paul II and marching through St. Petersburg Square.

His children remember his spontaneous song whenever they crossed a river, his love of backyard football games, and marathon viewings of the television program "24" with his son. They also fondly recall summer rides in the family Jeep, his trips out to visit Ciara after she moved to San Diego, and of course, all the time spent swimming together. Chuck, loved for so many things, endeared himself to all by sharing lobsters he caught free-diving off the rocks in Rockport.

For three years, Chuck fought valiantly against Inclusion Body Myositis, a form of muscular dystrophy, that resulted in the decline of muscle functions in his later years. During this time, he was cared for by his devoted wife Kerri, who tirelessly tended to his needs. He lived out his remaining years in the family's ocean-side Rockport home.

Chuck is survived by his family including his beloved wife of 27 years, his two children, many nieces and nephews, many wonderful friends, and two devoted dogs, Cupid and Tinsel. He will be reunited with his beloved K-9 companions, Thory pup and Talli ("Wupper" as Chuck called her).

In lieu of flowers, the family would deeply appreciate donations be sent to the MDA Association in Chuck's name (www.mda.org). A private waterfront celebration of his life will be held in Rockport on Sunday.
