Hi Eddie, I just lost another close friend and of course it made me think of you. If you meet up with George Gaspard, treat him as a friend. God bless you and all my dearly departed relatives and friends.

Well my friend, another year has past since you departed. We used to kid each other about how we would get the same operations or illness. Last month I found out I have diabetes too.

MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU

MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK

MAY THE SUN SHINE WARM UPON YOUR FACE; THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR

FIELDS AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, MAY

GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND.

So sad that Boston lost two legends in one weekend -- Ted Williams, the legendary baseball player; and Eddie Gaughan, the legendary personality. Life was never dull when you were around Eddie, that's for sure. Nobody could entertain a room like you could -- with your booming voice and endless jokes. On the other hand, nobody could tick off a room like you could either -- with your booming voice and endless insults. But that didn't worry you, did it? You were fearless with people, be they loved ones or strangers. You just called it like you saw it. We knew that and we loved you for it -- for that and for your great big unmistakeable heart. I'll miss all of that Eddie. I'll miss your laugh the most. But the stories you've told and the stories told about you -- and by extension, of course you, yourself will live on for a long time to come. You made sure of that, didn't you? I'm so sad that my wife and children will never have the opportunity to meet you. But they'll know you, oh, they’ll know all about you, that's for sure. They will hear endless tales about you from me and my Dad and Mom, and brothers and sisters and anyone who’s ever met you -- just as I did from my Dad -- because there simply are no better stories. You'll never be forgotten Eddie. And there is no better mark of a life well lived.
