Obviously a long time after the fact. I was a race director and Ed stayed at my home. i loved to sit around and talk with Ed, though his knowledge on every subject under the Sun far exceeded mine. Ed and Wilbur Rollins were so nice and my then small son, Bo, called Wilbur "Big Guy". Ed was a very talented runner and i guess God needed a track coach. I never met a nicer guy and certainly sorry for his wife and both families.

Ed and I were teammates at Harvard. Ed was known for pushing himself too hard. He lost a couple seasons to injury. Once he found a balance he was one of the best in the league. He was also known for being underdressed in the cold weather. He was dedicated to running and he friendly and good humored. I'm very disturbed to know that he is gone.

I am sorrry I did not know Ed,Jr.butI did know his father.Ed,Sr he lived accross the street from me and was my teacher in high school. He was one of the most influential people in my life and it sounds like his son carried on a wonderful tradition of caring and inspiring young people to give their best. Please accept my sincere condolences and my prayers for Ed and his dad. Bob casey

It is always disturbing to hear about someone of Ed's age and background passing so suddenly and without warning and at such a relatively young age. Although I did not know Ed very well, his fine reputation as both an athlete and coach earned him the respect of his contemporaries. I send my deepest condolences to his family and to his athletes.

Ed was a stalwart of quiet discipline and perseverence when we trained and competed in college. He inspired me to work beyond my apparent limitations. I pray God's equally inspiring strength and quiet peace to abide with the family.

We were saddened to hear the news today of Eddie's passing. We had many good times with him both in Boston and at races across the country. He was a gentle soul and our thoughts and prayers go to Naoko and all of his family.

Ed was my cross country and track coach in college at Troy State University from 1981 - 1984. Everyone on both the men's and women's teams loved Coach Ed Sheehan. We all had so much respect and sincere appreciation for his unselfish dedication towards our team and university. Coach Ed set such a great example of what it meant to be a dedicated athlete and student. Coach Ed was a true friend and coach to me as well as the rest of the team. I have very fond memories of just how special and dedicated Ed was to me and our team. I was truly blessed to have had Ed Sheehan as my coach and friend. God bless you Ed.

With such exceptional enthusiasm for running, Ed taught us and showed us all about hard work and dedication. Along with the sadness and sympathy, we will always have many many fond memories of Ed.

Our hearts and prayers are with Ed and all of his family.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Ed's death. He was my cross country coach at Troy State University in 1981, an outstanding runner and fine human being. This world is a lesser place with his passing.

This is really sad news.

Ed and I were rivals on the track through at least two years of high

school. Shortly after graduating he seemed to go through a remarkable transformation to beccome an outstanding national caliber runner. To this day, I am still influenced by how much he was able to acheive through hard work and dedication.

Ed was one of the kindest men I ever met--as manager of the Harvard track team, I remember Ed's red hair and his wiry frame dominating the distance events...he was an important mentor to a whole generation of Harvard Track, and a worthy "son" of McCurdy.

I was very sorry to hear of Ed's untimely death. I competed with Ed in High School in the Suburban league and again at Cornell . Though I never knew him well we were friendly at races and I considered him a friend and an inspiration. Ed participated in some of the glory days of running in New England and I feel privileged to have known him and to have been a small part of that running community. Sincere condolences to all of Ed's family.

I was very sad to learn the bad news. I was the race director of the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, Alabama in 1982 when Ed won the race in 2:13:46. He was 24 years old and at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama at that time. From the time above it is obvious that Ed was a great runner. He was also a very fine person and will be missed.

I am stunned and sadden by this news. Ed was a great friend and mentor as my coach in college and later as a roommate. I have many, many wonderful memories. He was a good man who always tried to do the right thing. He will be missed by all of us. God be with his family.
