GEORGE STAIRS Obituary

STAIRS, George William Passed away on January 21, 2025, at 75 years old, with his loving family around him. He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Anna Green; and their two children, Kathleen and John Stairs. He is survived by his siblings, Judith Stairs, Felicite Stairs and husband Dan McCarthy, Philippa Stairs, Alan Stairs, John Stairs and wife Darlene Meade, Sarah Stairs, and Tracy Clifton and husband Maurice Clifton; and many cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and in-laws. At 16 years old he began studying electrical engineering at McGill University in Montreal, Québec. He worked as an electrical engineer for more than a decade before attending MIT's Sloan School of Management MBA program. He worked as a financial analyst and went on to become a portfolio manager at Putnam Investments and later Fidelity Investments. George loved being on the water on his boat, the Bon Desir, in Beverly, MA, and the Stairs family boat, The Webbling, in Tadoussac, Québec. He spent many happy hours at the Jubilee Yacht Club as a boater, launch captain, member of the long-range planning committee, executive board and served as the Commodore this past year. He loved to play golf with his family and friends and preserved and managed the financial side of the Tadoussac Golf Course. George and Anna lived in Beverly for 35 years, very close to the beach, which was a main focal point of family life. He loved to play tennis at Bass River Tennis Club, was a great skier, an avid reader, and loved to play golf with his family and friends. Although he left Montreal in 1983, he always kept up his French and used it as often as he could. Above all, George was a fierce and proud supporter of his very large and boisterous family. He loved all the beautiful summers with the entire Stairs clan in Tadoussac and spending time with Anna's family in Waterville, New York, on her family's dairy farm. He could always be found wearing some shade of salmon (or pink (or red)) with a big smile on his face. His family and friends will remember his positive influence, innate curiosity and thoughtful brilliance. He will be dearly missed. Visiting Hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, BEVERLY, on Friday, January 31st, from 4pm to 7pm. His Funeral will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Saturday, February 1st, at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. George was always so nice - and fun. I still remember at our wedding, he was the life of the party! When we visited Beverly, he played ping ping with my Malcolm (9 at the time) for probably an hour. George is the reason we have a ping pong table now.:) I think of him every time we play. A truly kind and giving person. Sending all our love- Nicole, Matt, and Malcolm

george was always unassuming and smiling on the court, even at 7am, willing to praise his opponent´s winning shots, yet deeply competitive with a passion for the game. he will be sorely missed as a partner, an opponent, and a friend.
