Sr. HELEN WRIGHT

SISTER HELEN WRIGHT, SND April 24 in Worcester at age 94. With the Sisters of Notre Dame for 70 years. Known for many years in religious life as Sister Charlotte Marie. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, daughter of Charles and Mae (Foley) Wright. 1936 Framingham High School graduate. 1940 Emmanuel College graduate with a major in French Language and Literature. 1941 master's in education degree from Smith College, Northampton. 1958 master's degree in Theology and a 1972 Ph. D. in Theology from St. Michael's College, Toronto University. Teacher and supervisor in Boston Archdiocesen schools from 1944 to 1969. In 1972, she became director of the Pastoral Center at Emmanuel and a counselor at the Harvard Divinity School. From 1976 to 1981, she was a Professor at the Washington Theological Union in Washington, DC. In 1981, she became the director of the Urban Ministry Center in Raleigh, N.C. In 1996, she returned to Emmanuel to teach in its Pastoral Dept. From 1992 to 2000, she taught at the Notre Dame Education Center. She leaves a niece Peggy Islas and a grand-niece Tory Jones, both in Calif., and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was predeceased by her sister Frances Sherman. Calling hours Thursday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. in Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. Funeral Mass to follow at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel.
