HENRY I. "HANK" GROSSMAN

1936 - 2021

GROSSMAN, Henry I. "Hank" Age 84 years, of Brookline, formerly of Newton, died on Tues. March 9, 2021. Born in 1936, Hank was raised in the Bronx by his parents, Mark & Rose (England) Grossman and older sister Millie and grew up playing stickball on the street with friends. The most infamous moment from his youth came in college, when, as Editor-in-chief of the City College newspaper, an April Fool's issue gone wrong led to his and others' suspension ~ Hank told this story with pride and a bit of chagrin. While studying at Yale law school, Hank met his future wife, Frances "Fran" (Kaplan), they married and moved to Newton in 1970. As a father, he taught his kids a love of Boston sports, cooking, Airedales and the Beatles. He also co-founded an afterschool program in his children's school. His favorite job was working for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where he was a systems analyst and led, edited and produced "Fed Talk", an internal newspaper that shared news and interviews from all the New England branches of the Federal Reserve. To everyone's continued amazement, Hank exchanged his allegiance to the NY Yankees for a fierce commitment to the Boston Red Sox, which did not waver through many late nights and losing seasons. In retirement, Hank spent many happy hours watching sports in his living room with his rescue dogs, first Cleo, then Rusty. Hank is survived by his wife, Fran; his children, Jenny & her husband Aaron and Ben & his wife Jackie; his grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan and Julia and his nephews Jonathan and Josh and their families.
