Dear Alex Family,
I am saddened and very shocked to hear about Jim Alex's sudden passing. He was a great person both inside and out. He had a great love for life, saving lives and sharing himself.
He truely has a very special place in my heart forever.
He truely loved his mother Virgina brother George his wife Marlena and especially the girls. He always talked about his beautiful nieces. He went to cheer the girls on at their soccer games and their school performances. He had a big heart for everyone.
He was a great Doctor and I was very proud of him.
I am really glad that I got to know such a great person......he will be greatly missed. Always in my heart

Dear Alex Family,
James will be deeply missed by all who served with him in the U.S. Air Force. He was an encouragement to me as a medical student and later in my career. He has had a positive influence on many lives making the world a better place for us all.

I am still in shock that my dear friend Jim Alex is gone. When I saw him in San Francisco at our annual society meeting in September, he was full of life and plans, and so proud of his new surgical facility in Weston. I was proud of him too!
Jim and I worked closely together as residents in Vermont: he was one year junior to me in the program. During those years we shared the common goal of patient care, many hours together on the ward and in the operating room, and many belly-laughs. During those years we worked hard, and also played some on the ski slopes and on the dance floor. Jim was a great dancer!
I remember Jim as a gifted scholar who pioneered a new, and now widely accepted, technique of lymph node mapping in cancer patients. He was also a gifted technician in the operating room: when he worked there were no wasted movements. I have no doubt that Jim's patients benefited greatly from his significant gifts as a surgeon and physician. I also remember Jim as a devoted son and family man. Even though I only had one occasion to meet his mom, Virginia, and his brother George, I feel as though I have gotten to know them both over the years. Jim and I didn't have a conversation where he didn't share reports of the most important people in his life.
My heart goes out to Jim's family during this very sad time. Jim was like a brother to me, and he will be greatly missed.

I am saddened for the family and friends of Dr. Alex. You are experiencing a great loss and we are all sharing in your loss.I have read all of the messages in the guest book for Dr. James C. Alex.
I only had the opportunity of meeting Dr. Alex because of the Life Style Lift procedure he performed on me in January of this year. After a lot of research & prayer, we met with Dr. Alex before the procedure, to make our decision. After meeting with him it was easy to say "Yes". All of the character traits mentioned by those who know him, worked with him, and love him shone through during our first meeting. He didn't hide his "light under a bushel" and so many people have been blessed because of that. With our sincere sympathy.

Mrs. Alex, George and family:
I was shocked and saddened to learn from my friend George Alex this evening of Jim's untimely death. It was my good fortune and pleasure to have worked with Jim and gotten to know him over the past several years. I remember fondly the many meetings and dinners that I spent with Virginia, George and Jim. "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die". Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jim was a good friend. Being fellow Greeks was just the beginning of what brought us together. He was a wonderful educator and researcher while at Yale. When he finally made it back to his home grounds he struggled at first, but then persevered. I know he was very excited about his new office that he recently opened. He was a true gentleman, wonderful and reliable colleague, and above all else a great friend.

Dear Dr. Alex family. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Alex a little over a year ago. He was so kind and compassionate. He could connect with everyone so easily. I am saddened by the loss of such a talented, warm and loving man. I will always remember him. He touched my life and I will never forget the time and attention he gave me as a patient. I want to express my condolences to everyone who knew and loved him.

I worked with Jim at Lifestyle Lift for several years. At first we were co-workers, but very quickly we found that there was a terrific friendship developing. I will never forget the long discussions we would have about everything and sometimes about nothing. Sometimes about work, but mostly about life. He gave really useful advice and it always came from a loving place with the best intentions. He was a person I respected more than almost anybody I had ever met before and someone that I trusted completely. However, the thing I will remember and miss the most about Jim, is by far, his contagious smile and beautiful sense of humor. Sleep peacefully my friend. xoxo

I was lucky enough to have meet Jim back in the 90's when he would attend YAL events and Hellenic Times dinner dance. Over the course of few years I got to know him and enjoyed his company very much. Always had a smile and you could tell he really cared about others. It seems our Lord needed some work done after all these centuries and called home the very best to do that work. Jim will be solely missed but not only his family but by the lives he touched in so many ways. May his Memory be eternal, rest in peace.

Dear Alex Family,
I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Alex for 3 years. He was a kind soul that always had a sympathetic ear. I enjoyed his stories and political "conversations". He always made me laugh and kept me on my toes. He was his own person and never let anyone sway him from his views but was always willing to listen to your thoughts. He was always late, but ever so talented which made it okay! He never ceased to amaze me with his surgical abilities and how he made it look so effortless! He took his time with his patients and was diligent in his passion for all he did! He loved his family so very much and talked about you ALL the time! I am so very sorry for your loss. He is loved by many and will forever be in our hearts!

May his memory be eternal. With Love, The Sakellariadis Family

Costa and I both met Jim for the first time in July 1993 leaving the Atlanta airport to attend the YAL conference. The wheels on my suitcase just broke as I stood wondering how I would carry this heavy suitcase. All of a sudden, the suitcase was lifted by the handle and Jim said, "I got it". The 3 of us walked and all became friends from that moment on. We got a chance to see Jim many times through the years as he would come to NYC for the Hellenic Times Scholarship Gala, held annually in May. Costa and I will miss him a great deal and will always remember how we met him in Atlanta. That was how Jim was; always caring and so thoughtful of others. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I've know Jim since his residency days in Vermont. I still can't believe he's gone. Every time I headed to Boston I'd call Jim and bring him to a hockey or baseball game, where we would catch up on each of our lives. Heading to Boston will never be the same for me. He was a great friend, that will be dearly missed.

To the Alex Family:
Jim was the second person I met on the first day at Roxbury Latin back in 1974. He greeted me with the smile and friendly demeanor that obviously carried forward throughout his life and was fortunately experienced by many, many people. He was a great friend during those six years, and I have numerous fond memories of my association with him. You and he are in my thoughts and prayers. It is also obvious that Dr. Alex had a positive impact on many others, not only for his professional skills, but also for the humanity he brought to the distribution of those gifts. May you be comforted by the memories of a truly good and decent man.

Dear Family of Dr. Alex,
Our beloved brother in Christ, Jim, is truly missed, and his smile remains unchanged in our hearts. Dr. Alex - Jim - added so much to the community of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church during the time he attended services at the church, while he lived in CT. He always wanted to be part of all things that lifted up the body of the church. His willingness to step in and help out at our festival and throughout the many organizations at our church were an example of his love for the brotherhood of man. He always shared his kindness and compassion in his calling as a physician as well as in his personhood. His ability to play piano and bring a note of joy, his words, a smile, a laugh, or a moment of compassionate care are all ways we will remember him. He took the time for others. His life blessed those who knew him and will continue to inspire us throughout time. May his memory be eternal.

Dear Jim,
It feels like yesterday when I first met You, while you were serving on a research discussion panel for the New England Hellenic Medical and Dental Society. But in truth that wasn't yesterday, that was ten years ago, back in 2002. Since then, for the past decade, we served on the NEHMDS board together, and You were always the person with pioneering ideas and high energy, the voice of kindness and understanding and fairness, a physician-surgeon with ideals and goals and talents formulated under the influences of the highest Greek traditions. I am thinking back on some of the NEHMDS board meetings which we both attended - often at local Greek restaurants - especially the more productive meetings - it's impossible to imagine not hearing your voice at those meetings any longer. I will miss you profoundly. I wish to send my heartfelt condolences to Your Family. Anastasia Koniaris

I was very fortunate to have had Dr. Alex as my physician way back during his Yale days over 12 years ago. He performed two surgeries to help me put my life and body back together. While under his care I had the priviledge to get to know him personally and was honored to call him my friend. His incredible smile, hugs of encouragement and huge heart will never be forgotten. He was truly a blessing to all who knew him. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family which he was so very proud of. Since his move back to MA our conversations were not as frequent, but we would pick up as old friends do without skipping a beat. I always enjoyed hearing about the family updates which he included in every conversation. Just as the star I had named for you, you will always be a shining light to me and never forgotten.Rest in peace Jim!
