McCARTHY, Joseph L. Of South Boston, passed away on October 29, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Claire (Allen) McCarthy. Devoted father of Joseph L. McCarthy, Jr. and his wife, Eileen of Franklin, Maureen Manning and her husband, Kevin of Plymouth. Loving grandfather of Chloe Manning, Connor, Evan and Torin McCarthy. Brother of Paul and Peter McCarthy and the late Billy McCarthy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation in the O'Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester St., SOUTH BOSTON, on Wednesday, November 6, from 3 to 7pm. Funeral Mass in Gate of Heaven Church, 615 East Fourth Street, South Boston, on Thursday, November 7, at 10am. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mr. McCarthy was an Army and National Guard Veteran, member of the Castle Island Association and South Boston Yacht Club bowling league. He moved to Laurelwood at The Pinehills, in Plymouth, in March and quickly made friends as only Joe Mac can. He enjoyed all the activities including trivia, painting and of course, happy hour.
