This Veterans Day I honor you because you are not forgotten and vets like you make America strong and safe. Sometimes we forget the sacrifices made by vets and all they have been through because of them we may enjoy the freedoms we have. God bless you Keith because you are a true hero and one who will never be forgotten.

I will say this you are not forgotten and never will be because you are my hero and you soar with Angels and when I see the eagle it reminds me of your bravery because the eagle represents all. To me all that serve in the military represent the finest that America has to offer and you rank high because what you did saving people was honorable and combat medics are the finest in my book. I wish there were more people like you because the world would be safer and better because you are truly a blessing to your family and the military and God bless you.

I am at a complete loss. Keith was a dear friend, one of very few people I allowed into my life. I love him so completely and unconditionally. This has just about broken me. He and I had made loose plans to rendezvous when I am in Italy this summer. He thought he would be in Germany at that point and was going to try to take some leave and come see me for my birthday if possible. I cannot believe he's gone. And I am so sorry for his family and friends who knew him for longer than I. If this is how I feel, I cannot imagine your grief. This man was greatly valued in life and will be so in death. He was a truly beautiful individual, so strong. The world is dimmer without him. Requiescat in pace. </3

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Keith will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

To the family of SPC Keith Benson, you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. I do not know you. I did not know your son. But your son was a medic in the same unit as my son in Afghanistan. Medics in the Army are truly Heroes. Your son was a Hero to all the parents, spouses, children, grandparents and family of the soldiers serving in harms way. Thank You!

He left us much too soon. He served his nation. He served his fellow soldiers. He served a purpose.
And now...

May He Rest in Peace!

January 27, 2012

I did not know your son, however I heard of his death on the news. This a.m., on my drive to work, I saw about 100 school children from St. Catherine's in Norwood lined up along Washington Street in Norwood Ctr. I saw all the flags that were being carried and the lights of the state police cars. It was then that I realized exactly what was happening. At this point, I broke into tears. What a sight! My heart goes out to you, your family and your son's friends for your loss. I am forever grateful for your son's bravery, service and sacrifice to our country. And may you find comfort in knowing how many strangers his life has touched. May God bless you all!

To the Benson family,

I met Keith about six years ago when I was going to college in MA and the memories I have with Keith are some that I treasure the most. Keith was a loving, compassionate person who always knew how to make me smile and give me never-ending support and encouragement when I needed it. He had a quick wit and always carried himself with such integrity. The last time I had saw him, he came visit me a few days before he was leaving for bootcamp in May 2010. I knew he would make us all proud! Thank you so much for sharing him with us and for making the ultimate sacrifice. I feel as though I have not only lost a friend but a part of my family as well. He touched a lot of lives and will certainly not be forgotten.

Love and miss you, Keith. Rest in peace.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SPC. Keith D. Benson our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Keith. And to Keith it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the supreme sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Keith, you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. You are a brave American Warrior and Combat Medic, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Keith' family and loved ones.
