1937 - 2020

MURPHY, Patrick C. Of East Sandwich, formerly of Braintree and Boston, died suddenly of health issues at Cape Cod Hospital on July 1, 2020, at the age of 83. Patrick was born in Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland, to Jack Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy née Corbett, and was the oldest of their three children. At an early age, Patrick began working to support his family leaving him unable to continue in school. As a young man, he left Ireland in pursuit of better employment in England. Patrick was always fascinated with America so he immigrated to Boston in 1962 where he became a U.S. citizen and met his wife of 55 years, Angela Murphy, née Tuohy. He started working as a shop mechanic for Rock Driller Supply Company and before long decided to start his own business, Air Tool Services, Inc. Later he partnered with John Connolly to form ATS Equipment, Inc., a large and successful Boston-based road-building equipment company - a business that is still thriving today. Throughout his youth and beyond, he was an award-winning handball player who was well known on the courts of L Street, South Boston and other local athletic facilities, where he earned the nickname the "Irish Whip" for his unique and powerful style of play. Patrick was a proud and contributing member of the Boston Irish Community where he enjoyed many friends and connections. He retired to Cape Cod in 1999 and settled in Sandwich Downs, where he quickly gained a reputation as a friendly, go-to-guy who was very happy fixing small machines and assisting his wonderful neighbors with anything they needed. He was a devoted father who was especially proud of his children. He is survived by his brother, John Murphy, his wife, Margaret; and their children, Finbar, Enda, Bernadette, Ailish, and Mairead, to whom he was "Uncle Patsy". He also leaves behind his sister, Nora, and husband, Dick Sullivan. At home, he is survived by his dear wife, Angela; his daughter, Patricia, and husband, James Sheehy; his son, Sean Murphy, and wife, Jessica; and their five collective grandchildren, Jack, Owen, Kevin, Kelty, and Shaely - all beloved by their dear "Boppa". His numerous nicknames are a testimony to how much he was cherished by all. Lastly, he was a parishoner of St. Francis of Assisi, Braintree, and Our Lady of Good Hope, W. Barnstable. A celebration of life will be held at a future date when restrictions are lifted. Life is short! Enjoy every day!
