ROBERT HOOKER Obituary

HOOKER, Robert Joseph Jr. Of Easton, Maryland, passed away surrounded by his loving immediate family on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the age of 71, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center. "Bob" was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on February 25, 1950 to Mary Francis Hooker (Mahler) and Robert Joseph Hooker, Sr. Growing up, he enjoyed playing baseball and football, and he often talked fondly of his trips to Boy Scout camp. Bob spent over 30 years working for Star Market in Massachusetts, many of those years as a Store and District Manager, where he referred to himself as "the Michael Jordan of supermarket managers." Bob raised his family in Norfolk, Massachusetts, spending family time at homes in Quechee, Vermont and Cape Cod. Known for his humor, quick wit, and quiet generosity, Bob had many close friends, family, and colleagues who supported and laughed with him over the years. He looked forward to his frequent calls with family, and lifelong friends Tom, Sally, and "Bo," to name a few. His biggest treasure was his loving wife of 47 years, his "Lovely Lorraine," and the life they built together. He spent his retired years in the welcoming community of Easton, Maryland to be closer to his children, Joe and Kristen, and his grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Pa," he was very close to his grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan, and Jacqueline, and was proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed fishing and golfing because he shared these activities with family. Bob and Lorraine enjoyed traveling, often returning home to New England to spend time with his family and friends. Known as "Bobby" to Lorraine's family, they also held a special place in his heart. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Marie Hooker (Hucksam); his children Joseph Robert Hooker (spouse Jennifer Mahat Hooker) of Oakton, Virginia and Kristen Marie Stovall (spouse Phillip Spencer Stovall) of St. Michaels, Maryland; grandchildren Nathan Alexander Stovall, Ryan Joseph Hooker, and Jacqueline Victoria Hooker; and siblings Mary Jane Toolan of North Andover, Massachusetts and Jacquelyn Mara of Bedford, New Hampshire and their families; and predeceased by his sister Eleanor Hooker. As Bob would say, he did pretty well for a "non-steno kid." He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life is being scheduled for later this year.

Lorraine and family, deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing.

What a giant of a man; I worked with Bob and was the COO at Star from 1995-2000...in those years, Bob exemplified what it meant to be a Star. He was not only the Michael Jordan of store managers, but of many district managers and even many VPs as well. He was such an integral piece to the rebirth of Star Markets in the mid 90s and his truly outstanding performance (at the time), leading the country's finest supermarket, The Allston Star Market rested squarely on his shoulders. To be sure, there was no better leader anywhere in the country!

I will forever miss his fantastic and confident spirit. The refreshing humor he brought to everyone, and everything remains legendary, but most of all I will remember his huge heart while always striving to be the best and.......... he was!

Warm regards to all of you as you go forward with his blessed memory.

Lorraine, Joe, Kristen, Mary Jane, and Jacki,
Very saddened to hear of the passing of my cousin, Robert. I have a lot of childhood memories of him. On occasion, my dad took me to watch him play baseball in Cambridge and football at Saint Mary´ s High ( or as Robert sarcastically called it later in the years, " Saint Mary´s of the Annunciation"). I remember playing darts with him in the basement at 50 Highland Ave. and playing touch football with him on Moccasin Path in Arlington. Pretty good athlete. Most of all, in later years, I remember his ability to make people laugh. What better trait can one have??
Best wishes to all of you in this sad time.

Wanted to extend condolences and sympathy to Bobby's family on your loss. He's remembered as a friendly and witty member of the family and sadly, taken too soon. Wishing you all God's peace during this time.

Drove him nuts at Star Market. He couldn't help liking me, inspite of my being difficult. Great conversations, good manager, fair, but firm. much too soon, rest in peace Bob.

With the care and prayers of so many Bob fought very hard to get home to recover and he did get some hopeful/quality time spent with family...only to be taken so suddenly! Just not fair!

Bobby and Lorraine´s love story was written in the Stars (market that is). They built a wonderful life together, blessed with a beautiful family and filled with prosperity, happiness and love. Bob will be remembered by us all as a man full of generosity and humor. We will miss him.

Throughout my years as a married member of the Haverty family, Jack always expressed his unconditional love for Bobby. Bobbies dedication to Jack's brother Frank in his living years was admirable. This dedication and love was carried on to the entire family throughout the years. He is an angel with a great sense of humor always making everyone smile. Now he is in heavy,I am sure connecting with all his loved ones including Frank.
