RONALD A. CORBETT

CORBETT, Ronald A. 68, died peacefully at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Sunday February 12, 2017. Ronnie was born and raised in Medford, MA, where he married his wife Linda (Maloney) Corbett of Medford, whom he now joins in heaven. Also joining him in heaven are his mother Gertrude (Davis) Corbett, father Edward Corbett, and brother Frederick Corbett. Ron is survived by his three children Kristin Corbett, Wendy Kral, and Peter Corbett and his two grandchildren, Andrew Corbett and Ryan Corbett. Ron also leaves behind his sisters Irene Flynn, Judy Hanning, and Kathy Marino, and brothers Peter Corbett and Billy Corbett. Ron was an all-around natural athlete who lived and breathed all sports. Ron went to Medford High School where he played baseball and football. After graduating high school in 1967, he attended Suffolk University on a full baseball scholarship. He graduated Suffolk in 1971 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Ron was on the Dean's List and was awarded Student Athlete of the Year in 1971. Ron had a brilliant baseball career at Suffolk University and still holds the record for a Suffolk pitcher with the lowest ERA in one season (0.62). After graduating Suffolk, he signed a contract with the Oakland Athletics where he played professional baseball as a pitcher from 1970-1972. He was drafted three times with the A's as a starting and relief pitcher. During this time, Ron also enlisted with the US Army Reserves, where he served his country from 1970-1975. Ron went on to work as General Manager at Sears Credit and Collection Management from 1972-2001. Through baseball and his career promotions, Ron moved with his growing family to Iowa (where Kristin was born), Cape Elizabeth, ME (where Wendy was born), Clifton Park, NY (where Peter was born), Exton, PA, and Holland, PA, before finally retiring to Myrtle Beach in 2004. He loved the warm weather, the golfing, and his condo on the golf course. He also loved his "family" at Beef-O-Brady's in Myrtle Beach where he holds the record at Trivia and where he excelled at winning "Bingo Bucks". In 2002 Ron was inducted into the Medford High School Mustang Hall of Fame. In 2013 Ron was inducted into the Suffolk University Athletic Hall of Fame, where he is still considered one of the most dominating pitchers in school history. Ron was a good man who lived life on his own terms and will forever be missed. Family and friends are invited to pay respects to Ron's ashes at Gaffey Funeral Home, 43 High Street, MEDFORD, MA 02155 on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 2pm-5pm. He will be laid to rest at a later date with his wife Linda in Pennsylvania at a private ceremony.
