Father Dawber was one of the kindest people ever in my life. My Dad was very tough on me. He insisted that I keep improving term by term at BC High. He forced me to quit sports and study. Father Dawber saw that I was a bit unfocused but determined and he realized that I needed to compete in sports at BC High. To keep me eligible for sports he gave me a B in French when I had only averaged a C. I went to him and said "Father Dawber you made a mistake on my report card". And Father Dawber said, "No, I didn't. I see how hard you train and I know you'll earn that B in the next term". I mentioned how my father would be expecting a B as well.... Father Dawber was very clever...and very motivating....He was in my corner at a very critical time in my life. I credit Father Dawber with helping me earn 6 scholarships for Division 1 athletics. He also wrote in my yearbook, that I was the "finest young man that he had ever had the opporunity to teach"...I can say that I've had a bumpy journey in life and not many other people were ever as encouraging as Father Dawber. He taught me to have faith in myself when others were less encouraging or indifferent. He valued me and in doing so I learned to value myself and that has been a huge life lesson. This testament to Father Dawber is long overdue. He was a good and gentle man, a great friend, mentor and priest to me.

To the Dawber Family and his Jesuit Brothers,
I was fortunate to get reacquainted with Fr. Dawber, as his dentist at the Campion Center. We first met when I attended BC High in the mid 70's. It should come as no surprise that Father was just as witty and engaging with my staff and patients, as he was with the students in the halls of BC High. We all looked forward to his visits, for that certain anecdote and the occasional song. We will miss him and continue to pray for him.
Fondly,
Dr. Tom Russo '76

I remember Fr. Dawber so well from my days at BC High. He was a scholastic then, and had the most marvelous sense of humor - as well as being a wonderful teacher. My condolences to his family and the Jesuit community. The world is a poorer place without him.
