SUSAN RUTSTEIN

1939 - 2023

RUTSTEIN, Susan (Singer) Beloved wife, mother and grandmother; tenacious lawyer Passed away, on August 24, 2023. She had suffered for the last few years from dementia. Susan was born in New York but grew up in Natick, the only daughter of Irving and Adelle (Schwartz) Singer. She attended Syracuse and Boston University and taught English at Natick Junior High before her marriage in 1961 to Sheldon Rutstein. The couple adopted two children, Michael and Robin. Sheldon worked 37 years with Raytheon, for part of that time at their facility in Goleta, California, where Susan and Sheldon made many lifelong friends. In 1975, they moved back to Massachusetts, settling in Sudbury. They enjoyed active memberships at the Wightman Tennis Center in Weston and later at the Belmont Country Club. They also had vacation homes at Cranberry Knoll in Dennis, MA and later, at Boca West in Boca Raton. Susan is remembered as a beautiful woman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother to Emma, Jake, Meg and Ella; and great-grandmother to Mojave. After returning to school in her forties, she was a tenacious lawyer specializing in real estate, family law and union representation. After retiring from the bar, she enjoyed playing bridge and attained Gold Life Master status. A widow since 2014, Susan leaves behind her two children, four grandchildren, great-grandson; and her brother, Steven. A Memorial Gathering is scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, at the Weston Community Center, 20 Alphabet Lane, from 1:00 to 3:30.
