Jonathan T. (AKA “JT” or “Jon”) Small

1949 - 2016

67, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 surrounded by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Small Berndt and son, Jonathan T. Small II. He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on October 30, 1949. He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore (Ted) Small and Eugenia (Marbold) Small Hamilton. Jon was raised in Petersburg, Illinois where he was an all-star basketball player. After graduating from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri, he entered the clothing business in Marshall where he transformed into a clothes guru...always the best-dressed man in the room. Later, he was in the farm equipment business where he developed and executed innovative ideas to help farmers be more successful not only in America but around the world. He served his country in the Army National Guard Reserves. He was an avid golfer and loved to shoot pool. He relocated to Sarasota 7 years ago to be close to family after living in San Diego for several years. The family thanks his close friends for the loyalty and friendship they have shown Jon through the years. Jon is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (husband, Lance) Berndt of Omaha, NE; his son Jonathan (wife, Dawn) Small of Sarasota, FL and his five beautiful grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, in celebration of Jon's life, a gift to the American Cancer Society or the Historic Marbold Farmstead Association, P.O. 438, Greenview, IL 62642, may be donated in his memory.
