William Evans Obituary

NEW KENSINGTON - William J. "Bill" Evans, of Marietta, Ga., died on Tuesday (Sept. 7, 2021) at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., after a 6-year battle with cancer. He was 71 years of age.
Bill was born on Oct. 4, 1949, in New Kensington to Kenneth J. and Florence Borland Evans, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of New Kensington High School (1967), Grove City College (B.A., 1971), and Duquesne University (1975), where he earned the M.B.A. degree.
For 35 years, he held various executive positions in human resources with the Genuine Parts Company (NAPA products), headquartered in Georgia. In 1993, he moved from the Pittsburgh area to the Atlanta area as result of a job transfer, and he retired in 2013.
While living in the Pittsburgh area, Bill was a member of the Fox Chapel Rotary Club, where he served a year as President. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Kensington. In Marietta, he was active in his Homeowners Association, and was a member of the Roswell United Methodist Church.
He is survived by brothers K. James Jr. (Lisa) of Bradford; Stephen (Lisa) of Alpharetta, Ga.; Jeffrey (Sharon) of Allison Park; and by his sister, Anne (Nicholas) Korenowski of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. In addition, he is survived by a long-time friend, James Bowen of Peachtree Corners, Ga., and by his nieces Shea Evans, Casey Evans Smith (Justin), Kayla Korenowski, Jenna Korenowski, and his nephew Nicholas Korenowski.
Bill's annual vacation to Ocean City, Maryland with members of his immediate family was always one of the highlights of his summers. He was deeply loved by all of them. He is also survived by many caring neighbors and friends, who showed extraordinary support during the years of his illness, and by his beloved canine companion, miniature golden doodle Molly.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the R. J. Slater IV Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington, 724-335-0100, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. He will be interred next to his parents at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, to the Atlanta Humane Society, or to the Kenneth J. and Florence Borland Evans Family Scholarship Endowment at Grove City College. www.rjslater.com

Deepest sympathies to Bill's family. My drinking buddie from our Sixpence days. Knew Bill for nearly 50 years. Always a great friend and a true gentleman. RIP Bill and may our paths cross again. God bless you and peace be with you.

Having been gone from the ArKen Valley for more than 50 years, I was deeply saddened to hear and read about Bill's passing this week. Bill was most certainly one of the most friendly & personable classmates I can recall of, and in todays environment, a model human being. He was always polite, friendly, and outstanding academic who I believe, anyone would have been honored to know and shared their early and maturing days with. Enjoy your journey friend, as your legacy will be remembered by many.
