John J. "Dziadzia" Vollmer Sr., 87, of Goshen, Indiana, and longtime resident of Bryan, passed peacefully Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
John was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Toledo, son of the late Albert F. and Pearl (Gozdowski) Vollmer. He was a graduate of Macomber High School in Toledo. John married Christine "Busia" Augustyniak on Aug. 17, 1957, in Toledo, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2013. He then married Sheila (Flynn) Booker on March 20, 2014, in Venice, Florida, and she survives. John worked for Pepsi Co. his entire career, retiring as the Vice President of Pepsi of RKO Bottling Company in 2000 after 46 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan and the Goshen Methodist Church. John was a member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie No. 2233, Bryan Moose Lodge 1064, Bryan Knights of Columbus-Council 1915, past member of the Bryan Lions Club; past president of the Bryan Junior Achievement; served on the Bryan Chamber of Commerce. John enjoyed coaching youth sports and served as the president of the Bryan Baseball Association. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing and woodworking. Above all, John loved his family and enjoyed supporting them in their various school and community activities.
Surviving is his wife, Sheila Vollmer of Goshen, Indiana; six children, Kelly (Albert) Wonderly of Sherwood, Donna (Bill) Mann of Bryan, Scott Vollmer of Bryan, Anthony (Jennifer Brunges) Vollmer of Bryan, Wendy (William) Koza of Buckeye, Arizona, and Dawn (Rick) Catron of Goshen, Indiana; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert (Gwen) Vollmer of Toledo. John was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 55 years, Christine "Busia" Vollmer; son, John J. "Jay" Vollmer, Jr.
Visitation for John J. Vollmer Sr. will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, from 2-5:45 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 N. Lynn St., Bryan, Ohio 43506, where the Rosary will be recited at 5:45 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Andrew Wellmann officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery in Bryan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Monday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
