David Truka Obituary

BUCYRUS: David J. Truka, 87, of 1100 Linden Ave., Bucyrus, died early Wednesday morning, April 7, 2010 in Columbus.
He was born November 21, 1922 in Bucyrus and was the son of the late Edward and Martha (Witter) Truka.
David is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan (Shumaker) whom he married on February 3, 1944; other survivors include three sons, Neil D. Truka of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Mark D. Truka and wife, Phyllis of Atlanta, GA, Bruce D. Truka of Bucyrus; and two grandchildren, Lauren and Kristin Truka.
He is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Margo Truka; and six brothers, John, Jim, Tom, Phil, Edward "Bud" and Paul.
David was an area resident his entire life and was a 1940 graduate of Bucyrus High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, worked at GE for thirty years and retired as a supervisor in 1986. David, along with his wife, owned and operated the Furniture House in Bucyrus for over 32 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #181 of Bucyrus. David enjoyed golfing, snow skiing, visiting Lake Erie and spending time with his family.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home. Rosary recited at 7:45. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Ronald LeJeune as Celebrant and Father Frederick Schill as Con-Celebrant. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Holy Trintiy Endowment fund in care of the funeral home.
