How I cherish those Saturays after Saturdays, after Saturays sitting with Bernie and Ben in their vacant field of dreams, Elk Terminal watching those dreams become reality. Having lost my Dad at an early age Bernie became my father figure, my mentor, my friend. Tough, demanding, stubborn, gentle and giving all at the same time. An extraordinary man. my heatfelt condolences to all of you.

Mr. O taught me more than he ever realized. As a young real estate broker years ago, he had faith in my abilities before I did. I wish I took the time to learn more from this great man. As the saying goes; 'when a senior citizen dies, another library closes.' Thank you for the knowledge you shared with so many of us.

Mr. Obletz epitomized a diminishing era – one characterized by business being done on a handshake, community commitment and involvement, and the mentoring of tomorrow’s leaders. He will be sorely missed but, his legacy will live on in WNY. My deepest condolences to the Obletz family for their loss.

Steve, Tom, Betsy and Doug: On behalf of the entire Hoyt family we send our most sincere condolences on the passing of your dad. Bernie was a great man who I respected immensely and whose advice I sought regularly. I really did not get to know him until after my father died and from that time on Bernie became somewhat of a father figure to me. When I had tough decisions to make as an elected official I would often seek out Bernie's advice and, sometimes, he would seek me out to give me advice even if I didn't think i needed it (I bet you know what I am talking about!). At one point a few years back, I was thinking of running for mayor and i sought his counsel and he told me that I should forget about mayor and run for congress. He said, "you are a legislator and a good one and you should not waste your talents in city hall. go to congress!" well, i followed his advice by not running for mayor, as for the rest, time will tell. he was a great man who did so much for this region. I will miss his advice, his huge smile and most of all our friendship. I am so sorry for your loss.

Mr.Obletz (as I always respectfully addressed him) was a good guy. I have fond memories of him playing tennis at our house on Lebrun Rd. and afterwards sharing a cold one with the boys under the maple tree in the yard.I was often a ball boy for their tournaments. It was a great group of men to see and be associated with as I was growing up.I enjoyed seeing him again at Canterbury Woods when visiting my father. I am sorry for your loss.
