Jim Dallimore

June 11, 2025

My name is Jim Dallimore, former Canada Border Services Criminal Investigator - Toronto Office, retiring in october 2007 after spending 35 years with the Canada Border Services Agency formally Canada Customs. I joined as an Inspector in May 1973, being promoted to the Criminal Investigations branch in December 1978..

I first met Dave when I went to the Buffalo Customs Investigations office in the summer of 1980, to ask for assistance in a case of the smuggling of video tapes from the Buffalo area into Canada. by members of the East Indian Mafia. Dave was assigned to accompany me to the Buffalo office of a person involved in the scheme. He was very uncooperative until Dave announced that he was very hot and removed his jacket. The gentleman,we were interviewing saw Dave's gun and suddenly became very co-operative. He sent us to their accountant at another location, to get the necessary records. for the video tapes which were sent to Canada.
Yes the case was concluded with a successful conviction of the Canadian smuggler in a Canadian court.
Of course between stop one and two in the Buffalo area, we went to lunch. Dave knew every lunch spot in Buffalo, I think.

Throughout Dave's career in the Buffalo office he was very cooperative with me. We assisted each other many times and we developed a strong friendship.

One Friday night when my son Rob was 12 (now 47) , myself and Rob;s friend Mike went to see the Buffalo Sabers play in Buffalo. After spending the night in Buffalo we headed home via Grand Island and Dave's house. He was very anxious to show us his new US Customs car., The boys sat in the car while Dave turned on the lights and siren. Dave then showed us the radio from which he contacted a Special Agent in California, Needless to say the boys were on cloud nine,
For ten years, I was a member of the Law Enforcement Co-Operating committee for Western New York and Southern Ontario. When I attended meetings in Buffalo, I would always make a point to see Dave.
The highlight of all my visits to Buffalo, came when I attended Dave's retirement celebration, held at the Buffalo ballpark. On behalf of Canada Border Services Agency, office of Criminal Investigations., I presented to Dave a plaque from my agency and gave a speech.
My visits to his Grand Island home continued until my wife Lorna and I moved from Milton, Ontario to Sidney, British Columbia .
Friend, I will never forget you.
