To the whole family~ I am very sorry for your loss.. Deacon Don was truly a MENTOR to everybody~ family wise and to the whole church community. I was one of Deacon Don's altar servers and he was such a genuine, caring, man. He appreciated life and was always willing to help anybody out. He would always greet me at church with a hug and a smile. I would look forward going to church to see him. He has touched everybodys life is such a positive way. Thanks for always being there for me and watching me grow up from childhood to college. Ill never forget the altar server award, the dinner with you and my family after, and altar serving at that wedding with you. I will miss not seeing your face in church. You were a very great man and you will be missed. Thanks for everything- you have touched my life in such a positive way.

This was our GNFC email message: Don Seyfried was already an accomplished veteran volunteer Scouter when he was recruited to serve as an executive for the GNFC. At a time when most Scouters are happy to pass the reins to the younger group of parents, Don Seyfried answered a call to service as a professional Scouter, after his retirement from the steel industry. Don served in many capacities at the GNFC, District Executive, Field Director, Program Director, Training Director, but his true job was Mentor. He was a mentor to volunteers and fellow professionals alike. Don recruited volunteers with a personal style that made you want to be on his team. One example of a lasting GNFC legacy is the annual Eagle Scout Career Day & Recognition Dinner, a credit to the original team of volunteers recruited by Don to make it a success. After a full career with the BSA, Don answered a further call to service as a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church, a role that he fulfilled with the energy and zeal of a young man starting a new career. Don's call to service lives on in the memories of the Scouts, leaders, and families whose lives he touched.

Dear Seyfried family,
Deacon Don was a wonderful, kind, gentle, and caring man. We worked on so many projects with him at St. Pius. He loved children and we know that many lives were touched by him. Your fond memories will keep you strong.

Dear Lannie:

Don played a huge part in the shaping of my life. I got to know him when he was a scoutmaster of troop 299 and I was just a scout with troop 440. Over the years it was a pleasure to work with him in scouting doeing many different things, at troop, district and council levels. I considered him a person who was a truly living example of what a scouter was, along with what a Christian shouls be.

He will always be remembered by me, and his loss will be felt be many.

With my sympathy,

Maria Federio

Don was such a good friend to me and my family. I am so greatful for the numerous times I had to talk to him on a weekly bases. He has left foot prints on my heart. He has taught me so much about life, marriage, parenting in the short time that I have known him. As he would say, "God put us in each others path for a reason." I will miss him so much. And he also will be missed by all the many many people that saw him as an awsome example in the fellowship that we shared.

Don was a mentor to me, and to hundreds of Western New Yorkers, through Scouting, through church work. He was a role model of service to others, tireless, self less, virtuous. I am grateful for the time I spent under Don's wings.
