Dear Gloria, Henry Jr. & Pirowski Siblings: My sisters & I grew up with the Pirowski clan. We all attended the same schools & church so we were lucky to get to know the family well. "Hanky" was sweet, kind & funny even in elementary school-he was my 5th gr. crush. His life was short, but from the memorials written, he lead a great & charitable life. His legacy will live on, the same legacy passed on to him by his loving, down to earth, funny parents & siblings. God Bless you all & may all your happy memories get you through these difficult days. He will always be with you. Tish (Lanc) Beckwith

Greg Berman, the director of the Center for Court Innovation, recently blogged about Hank:
http://courtinnovation.blogspot.com/2012/02/hank-pirowski-rip.html
"Earlier today, I received the sad news that Hank Pirowski had passed away after a long illness. Hank was a pioneering figure in New York State. He was an early believer in drug court and played a key role in bringing a number of different problem-solving courts to Buffalo. My favorite project of his was Buffalo's C.O.U.R.T.S program, which helped to inspire our own Bronx Community Solutions.
I wasn't particularly close to Hank -- all told, I probably only spent a few hours in his company. But I think I was one of many who admired him from afar for his creativity and his industry, to say nothing of his quirky sense of humor. My favorite moment with Hank was a lunch we had together a few years back during a visit I made to Buffalo. After a tour of C.O.U.R.T.S, he took me to a local lunch place and graciously shared stories of his brief experience as a player at the Washington Redskins training camp. He will be missed."
I couldn't have put it better myself!

I knew Hank through our mutual profession and involvement in Drug Treatment Court and had the pleasure of seeing him annually at the State Conferences. He was, without a doubt, a man who was dedicated to helping others and did so with a passion. He always had a smile and a handshake for everyone and will be missed. RIP Hank and know that your time with us was well spent. Your family & friends were blessed to have you.

Hank, I will forever be grateful to you as I do not know where I would be without you. You took me under your wing and shared with me all that you know. You always made sure your "work children" were safe no matter what you had to do. I watched you change the lives of so many people and you continue to do so with the wonderful work that you left behind here in Buffalo and around the world as Treatment Courts are everywhere. Your laugh will forever be in our hearts...thank you for making me who I am today.
To the Pirowski family- my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sorrowful time. Thank you for sharing such an awesome man with us.

From 2/18/97-9/28/02, I was privileged to be part of an experienced and thoroughly professional Drug Court team at the Buffalo (NY) City Court. Henry (Hank) Pirowski may not have created the role of Drug Court Coordinator, but he certainly redefined it. We cannot begin to fully appreciate how important he has been to the drug court movement, working to create and distribute a Management Information System (MIS) when he did not know a thing about computers or programming! It has been made available to other jurisdictions to copy for the cost of a disc. His ability to see the larger picture and write grants benefited thousands of persons.
If Hank retired a week after starting the COURTS Program, he would have already transformed the world in ways few could ever imagine and it was done peacefully and in the spirit of love. Consider the interconnected webs of people, families and communities in WNY and across the world better for his time on Earth given the many years after that first week which Hank Pirowski devoted to the field of addictions treatment.
Semper Fi, Big Guy!

We have all lost a magnificent friend and colleague who has touched so many lives in so many places and in so many ways. Hank taught us so much, not only through all of the talent, creativity and direction he gave to his professional work but in his way of dealing with people -- his smile and his laugh, his warm heart and genuine love for human beings --which showed in all he did.
In the midst of our tremendous sadness we are grateful that he was part of our lives, at least for a moment.

There aren't many people who pass through this life that have such an impact on so many individuals. Hank took the time to help thousands of people, spending time giving words of wisdom. I was personally touched by Hank's gift of influence, and I truly believe that I am better at what I do because of the knowledge shared by Hank. To Hank's family, my prayers are with you all, and although weeping may endure for a night, joy comes in the mornng! God Bless you all. Ron C.

A song by Ruthie Foster says
Up above my head - there must be music in the air.
Up above my head - there's music sweet music everywhere.
Oh I really do believe must be heaven somewhere.
The Drug Court world has lost a great friend, mentor and teacher in Hank Pirowski. Up above my head there must be laughter in the air.
Up above my head there is laughter sweet laughter everywhere.
I hear Hanks laughter up above my head. Hank always had a smile and laugh that touched us all. Hank gave so freely of his life, time and talent. He coined the phrase Dollars are equal to Data. He co-developed the Buffalo MIS System that has been so freely given to thousands. Hank served as faculty for NDCI, where I met him in 1999. He was my friend, my mentor and teacher and he will be greatly missed. He leaves a legacy that will last on in the lives of those he touched.
To his family you are truly in my prayers.
