BRICK - Joan E. (nee Wenban)
Age 83, of Orchard Park, NY, entered into the Lord's loving arms on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Born August 24, 1937, in Watkins Glen, NY, to Mary and Gordon Wenban. Joan was an amazing mother, grandmother, partner, and friend. Her greatest passion in life was her love for her family. Whether it was baking, knitting blankets, making our favorite foods, or enjoying week-long summer vacation trips with the grandchildren, it was all done out of love for us. To her employers, she was highly regarded as a dedicated employee throughout her working years. Her long career included 19 years as sales associate and interior design consultant at the former FWS in Buffalo, five years in consumer loan processing and customer support at General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Rochester, and most recently, 12 years as a sales associate at Kohl's in Orchard Park, where she worked until just prior to her 80th birthday. Joan was a learned student of art history, architecture, and design, and she enjoyed modern art, live theatre, and jazz concerts. Joan was a loving "mom" to her rescue dog Sophie. Best friend and beloved life partner of 31 years of Bill Peifer. Precious mother of Larry (Carole) Dickens, Barbara (Kenneth) Merrill, and Deborah Balog. Cherished grandmother of Nathen (Leah Galley) Balog, Cara (Geoff) Backhaus, Jenna (Mark Hickey) Balog, Travis Balog, Brenton (Daisy Muratalla) Papenfuse, Jessica (Brady) Kennedy, and Joshua Merrill. Treasured great-grandmother of Lillianna and Kenny. Sadly, Joan will not be with us for the impending birth of great-grandson Sage. Joan is missed dearly by all of us, and the world was a better place with her in it. Joan was a generous patron and regular donor to several area non-profits, and in her final act of charity, she gifted her body to the University at Buffalo's Anatomical Gift Program. Those wishing to honor Joan's life are asked to consider a donation in her memory to SPCA Serving Erie County, or to Hospice Buffalo.
