Joseph CALATO Obituary
Joseph D. Calato, age 102, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Samuel and Angela (Bongiovanni) Calaty; and the beloved husband of 72 years to the late Katherine 'Kay' Calato. Mr. Calato is survived by his children, Carol Calato, Joseph (Barbara) Calato and Cathy (Gordon) Calato-Stephens; his grandchildren, Joseph Calato, Jesse (Jennifer) Calato, Nicholas (Melody) Calato, Chantal (David) Calato Bachowski, Rocco (Christine) Calato, Angelo Calato and Michelle (Matthew) Calato-Carrier; his great-grandchildren, Deanna, Aaron, Alex, Samantha, Max, Mia (Kenan), Domenic, Izzi, Elle and Antoinette; as well as many nieces and nephews. In 1958, Joseph established J.D. Calato Manufacturing Co., and created the famous Regal Tip drumstick. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6 from 3 - 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin Thursday at 10:30 AM, followed by Military honors and interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. My sincere condolences to the Calato family. As a drummer I relied on the quality of Regal Tip for years. Years ago I wrote a detailed letter to the company concerning a problem. Joe called me personally to respond to the issue. We spoke at length as if he had known me all my life. A week after the call a large package arrived along with a hand written note signed by Joe which stated: "Hope I fixed the problem. Please enjoy these with my complements." Mr. Calato was a class act and a friend to everyone he encountered. He will be missed. RIP my friend.
