I was very sad to learn of the death of Paul. He was a good friend and an asset to the music program at Amherst. I had the privilege of teaching Chris and Claire. He died far too soon. I will always remember him as a great administrator and friend to the music program. He helped me in so many ways. May he rest in peace.

Dear Marge and family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Paul. He was a true gentleman and a very accomplished man. I remember when we first moved to the Amherst school system when our son was in the sixth grade, it was Paul who greeted him at the school's door and took him under his wing. He introduced Todd to all of his new teachers and made the transition very easy for him. We were so appreciative of his help at that time. He always had time for anyone who needed guidance.
I hope your beautiful memories of this wonderful husband and father will carry you through the weeks and months ahead.

rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him. My condolences to Marge and the family.

Deeply saddened to hear of Paul's passing. As a new teacher in Amherst 15 years ago, Doc took me under his wing and personally mentored me while serving as Deputy Superintendent and Interim principal at Windermere. He had plenty on his plate but took the time to work with me. If it were not for him, I certainly would not be the teacher I am today. Condolences to the Wietig Family.

My deepest condolences to the Wietig family from the Perez family. Dr. Wietig was a wonderful neighbor, friend and mentor. I was 12 years old when my father passed away and Dr. Wietig was part of the remarkable village of Walton Drive that always looked out for me. From playing catch with a football or baseball to providing mentorship, Dr. Wietig was a person of great generosity. I was honored to come to UB a couple years and see first hand the remarkable village Dr. Wietig built there. Countless people are living better lives as a result of Dr. Wietig. To the Wietig family: we are profoundly saddened by your loss and I am profoundly grateful to have had the privilege of crossing paths with such a remarkable person.

I was in Dr.Wietig's home room in 7th grade. He was a positive influence on me during those difficult teenage years- and I often think about him. I was fortunate to have had him as a teacher and role model, and I felt as though he was my friend- even as a 7th grader. Best wishes to his family- he was a fine man.

Dr. Wietig was, by far, one of the kindest loving caring man I knew! He cared about every child, and every teacher at Windermere! This was his second home - he knew us, teachers, by names - he ever knew our family member's names. Always smiling! Always caring about safety of the kids first! His morning greeting YABA-DABA-DOO on the loud speaker - it made everyone's day start the right way! He will always be remembered as one of the GREATEST in Amherst!!!

Knud Muenter

April 13, 2016

Dr. Weitig was my teacher at Amherst in the early 80's. It was a time in my life where my father had recently passed and my demeanor was somewhat hopeless. Dr. Wietig had a profound impact on me personally. He was kind, wise, and made me believe in myself and my future. His impact on my life was tremendous, and my only regret was losing contact with him and never thanking him for his patience and advice. So thank you Dr. Wietig. Your compassion and care for your students made a big difference in my life, and many others.
